Job Description

The librarian is responsible for maintaining a comprehensive library to support staff, faculty, and students at technical colleges. The librarian provides reference and circulation services utilizing a variety of information resources with an emphasis on computer and Internet research applications. Maintains qualifications for employment as described by the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) Policy Manual and accreditation standards. Follows rules and regulations described by the TCSG Policy Manual and other policies and procedures established by the institution. Position may require travel within the college’s assigned locations and other travel as needed.

Primary Job Responsibilities
  • Catalogs books and other library materials according to standard library practices;
  • Supervises the physical processing of library materials;
  • Recommends and processes orders of library materials and equipment and maintains acquisition records;
  • Provides technical support for library software;
  • Provides information and research services to patrons;
  • Maintains reference materials and provides assistance with reference sources;
  • Supervises circulation services;
  • Supervises interlibrary loan services and operations;
  • Compiles and maintains usage and circulation reports;
  • Develops policies, procedures, long and short-term goals and objectives for the operations of library programs and education resource center;
  • Disseminates information on use of facilities, resources, equipment, services and policies;
  • Maintains a manual of policies and procedures;
  • Acts as a system administrator for automated library systems;
  • Assist in supervision of Warner Robins library staff; and
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Competencies
  • Knowledge of library materials, methods, and organization
  • Knowledge of the methods of classifying, cataloging and shelf-listing books
  • Knowledge of the Dewey Decimal and Library of Congress classification systems
  • Knowledge of bibliographies, card catalogs, indexes, guides, encyclopedias, and other reference materials used in the library
  • Knowledge of research methods
  • Skilled in operating computer and job-related software programs
  • Skilled in interpersonal relations and dealing with the public
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Skilled in operating basic office machinery
  • Skilled in organizing and multitasking
  • Skilled in maintaining records and preparing reports and correspondence related to work
  • Decision making and problem-solving skills
Minimum Qualifications

Must upload transcripts which show conferred educational degrees and document qualifications in the employment history:

  • Master degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution.
Preferred Qualifications, in addition to minimum qualifications
  • Library work experience in a post-secondary academic environment
  • Experience with ExLibris Alma and Primo
  • Experience working in collaborative teams on instructional or technical projects
  • Knowledge of electronic learning resources and databases, including LibGuides
Projected Work Hours / Location

This position is projected to work 11:15 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Additional hours to include evenings and/or weekends may be required as needed. Position will be assigned to the Warner Robins campus with travel within the college service area as needed. This position is scheduled to work all 12 months per calendar year and at 32 hours per week.

Salary/Benefits

Annual gross salary range in the mid $40’s; actual gross salary will be based on the candidate’s highest qualifying degree based on meeting published minimum and preferred qualifications. This is a 12-month, 32-hour per week, full-time position and is eligible for benefits to include retirement, insurance, leave accrual and holiday pay. CGTC is a member of Teachers Retirement System of Georgia (TRS) and Employees Retirement System of Georgia (ERS).
