Professional Land Surveyor

Reports to: Senior Professional Land Surveyor / Survey Lead

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Travel: 15%

Purpose

Under the supervision of a Senior Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) and Business Unit Leader (BUL), this role oversees field and office staff to ensure the timely completion of DDG projects. The PLS calculates land boundaries, generates accurate maps and reports, mentors staff, plans field activities, bids on projects, and coordinates with the Survey Coordinator and Crew Manager for scheduling and client satisfaction.

Activities & Responsibilities
  • Perform project research and ensure specifications in contracts are met or exceeded.
  • Mentor and train survey crew members.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor with all staff and clients.
  • Communicate with clients to confirm crews are on track to complete projects on time, providing updates if the project is behind or ahead of schedule.
  • Manage the budget for the survey project by tracking costs and ensuring efficient use of funds.
  • Examine previous records and evidence to ensure data accuracy.
  • Research and design methods for survey processes.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to field and office teams.
  • Manage fieldwork operations, including vendor selection, scheduling, and quality control.
  • Report on survey results and present findings to clients.
  • Collaborate with engineers and architects on multiple projects.
  • Coordinate with the Crew Manager about crew activities to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Check and reduce raw field data, perform calculations, and upload/file survey data.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of land design drawings, construction processes, land safety, and security issues.
  • Make 15 business development touches a month.
Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of GPS.
  • Tech savvy, including familiarity with CAD software.
  • Aptitude in math and problem‑solving.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Great organizational and leadership skills.
  • Professional Land Surveying License.
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly work outside in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, wet, and muddy conditions, and high or precarious places.
  • Travel frequently and work overtime, including weekends, as needed.
  • Lift equipment or objects weighing 50–75 pounds.
