Job Description

PROFESSIONAL LAND SURVEYOR
Reports to: Senior Professional Land Surveyor / Survey Lead
FLSA Classification: Exempt
Travel: 15%

Under the supervision of a Senior Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) and Business Unit Leader (BUL), the Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) oversees field and office staff to ensure the timely completion of DDG projects. The PLS plays a crucial role in calculating land boundaries in various locations and generating accurate maps and reports of survey results for our clients. This position requires hands‑on experience with surveying instruments and proficiency in GPS systems. To excel as a surveyor, you must possess exceptional mathematical and analytical skills, coupled with a keen eye for dimensions. The PLS supports office and field staff by mentoring, planning field activities, bidding projects and coordinating with the Survey Coordinator and Crew Manager for scheduling. This person should have skills in land measurement, equipment operation, data analysis, map creation, leadership, organization, and communication. Proficiency in CAD and GPS systems is also essential. The PLS is a champion of our company's core values while maintaining internal and external client satisfaction.

Activities & Responsibilities
  • Perform project research and ensure specifications in contracts are met or exceeded.
  • Mentor and train survey crew members.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor with all staff and clients.
  • Communicate with clients to confirm crews are on track to complete projects on time.
  • Provide updates if the project is behind or ahead of schedule.
  • Manage the budget for the survey project by ensuring that costs are tracked and that funds are used efficiently.
  • Examine previous records and evidence to ensure data accuracy.
  • Research and design methods for survey processes.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to field and office team.
  • Manage fieldwork operations, including vendor selection, scheduling, and quality control.
  • Report on survey results and present findings to clients.
  • Collaborate with engineers and architects on several projects.
  • Coordinate with Crew Manager about crew activities to ensure completion of a project in a timely fashion.
  • Check and reduce raw field data, perform calculations, and upload/file survey data.
  • Have a strong understanding and knowledge of land design drawings, construction processes, and land safety and security issues.
  • Conduct 15 business development touches each month.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to regularly work outside in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, wet, and muddy conditions, and high/precarious places.
  • Ability to travel frequently and work overtime, including weekends, as needed.
  • Ability to lift equipment or objects weighing 50 to 75 pounds.
