Job summary

TKDA is seeking a Professional Engineer - Traffic to enhance safety and mobility of transportation systems across Wisconsin and the nation. The role focuses on leading traffic design and operations tasks, coordinating with clients and multidisciplinary teams, and delivering high-quality studies and plans.

Applicants should have a PE or be eligible in Wisconsin, 5+ years in traffic engineering, and proficiency with design and analysis tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering is required.
• Professional Engineer license in Wisconsin or ability to obtain within six months of employment.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in traffic engineering with emphasis in traffic design or operations.
• Desirable certifications: PTOE or RSP or interest in attaining either credential.
• Experience in both traffic operations and traffic design.
• Ability to develop plans, reports, and specifications; strong written and verbal communication.

Join TKDA as a Professional Engineer - Traffic and help improve the safety and mobility of transportation systems throughout Wisconsin and across the country.

Responsibilities

• Lead traffic engineering tasks related to design and plan development, including signing, pavement markings, construction staging and temporary traffic control, traffic signals, and roadway lighting.
• Perform or support traffic operations analyses, safety evaluations, traffic studies, forecasting, and traffic simulation modeling.
• Prepare or oversee plans, specifications, cost estimates, technical memoranda, and reports.
• Support client coordination, project delivery, and technical leadership of project teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
• Professional Engineer in the State of Wisconsin or ability to obtain registration within six months of employment.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in traffic engineering with an emphasis in traffic design, traffic operations, or a combination of both.
• Experience with one or both of the following areas:
• Traffic Design: Experience developing plans and specifications for signing, pavement markings, construction staging and temporary traffic control, traffic signals, and/or roadway lighting. Proficiency with design software such as Bentley OpenRoads Designer or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Traffic Operations: Experience with traffic data collection, traffic forecasting, operations analysis, safety evaluations, traffic studies, and/or simulation modeling. Proficiency with tools such as Synchro/SimTraffic, Highway Capacity Software (HCS), Vissim, Rodel, SIDRA, or similar analysis software.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to write technical reports and specifications, participate in client meetings, and effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams.
• Experience supporting project management, proposal development, or client coordination.
• Interest in developing business development and project management responsibilities.
• Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification, Road Safety Professional (RSP) certification, or interest in attaining either credential.
• Experience in both traffic operations and traffic design.
• Experience developing or delivering corridor studies, including alternatives analysis and development of transportation recommendations.
• Experience with multimodal analysis and design.
• Experience leading project tasks, coordinating technical staff, or mentoring junior engineers.
• Experience supporting project management, proposal development, or client coordination.
