Position Overview
MMC Group is hiring on behalf of our client in the Utility Engineering industry. The client is a fast-growing power distribution engineering and construction management (EPC) firm servicing major Southwest utilities, IOUs, and Co-ops. Due to rapid growth and newly signed MSAs, we are looking for a Professional Engineer (PE) to completely own our engineering and design division.
This is a hands-on, player-coach role. You will manage an existing team of 4 designers (scaling to 10 quickly), establish QA/QC standards, and handle the final stamping of all deliverables. You should expect to be billable ~50% of the time.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineering Oversight: Act as the technical lead and final sign-off; review and stamp all distribution engineering packages before construction.
- Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and track utilization rates for a growing team of 4+ distribution designers.
- Design & Production: Roll up your sleeves and execute high-quality overhead/underground distribution designs, maintaining a strong weekly mileage output.
- System Studies: Lead large-scope, long-term reliability and performance studies (1-to-5-year utility outlooks).
- QA/QC & Reports: Streamline engineering workflows, eliminate design bottlenecks, and interface directly with utility clients to ensure strict compliance with ERCOT system resilience (SRP) parameters.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Licensure: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Experience: 5+ years of power delivery/distribution engineering experience.
- Technical Breadth: Heavy experience in both overhead and underground distribution (transformers, feeders, subdivisions, and Texas-market pole packages).
- Software Proficiency:
- Expert-level capability with PLS-CAD.
- Recent experience (past 2 years) with DDS software is highly preferred (experience with TNP or AEP systems is a major plus).
- Operational Background: Experience executing grid reliability studies and participating in utility storm restoration workflows.
- Industry Context: Background working within an engineering consulting firm serving large utilities is preferred. Note: We are not looking to direct-hire from our primary utility clients.
Our Culture & Values
Client is a scrappy, agile team that prioritizes GSD (Getting Sh*t Done) over corporate bureaucracy.
- High Autonomy: Offers a long leash to professionals who take deep pride in their work.
- Fast-Paced & Adaptive: Can pivot quickly to meet client needs; this is a collaborative, non-transactional environment.
- No Babysitting: Maintains a laid-back culture but expect high analytical skills, focus, and low drama.
