Qualifications

• BS in Civil Engineering from ABET program.
• Registration as Professional Civil Engineer in Louisiana or reciprocity within 6 months.
• 5–10 years PE experience; project management.
• Knowledge of AASHTO design guidelines and relevant codes.
• Experience in storm water drainage design.
• Road design experience with Louisiana DOTD preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide engineering and technical support in Transportation Department for road projects.
• Oversee designs using CADD software and interpret surveys.
• Manage project design phases from inception to final acceptance.
• Control costs and ensure on-time delivery of projects.
• Review roadway calculations, submittals, and contractor proposals.
• Perform QA/QC reviews of design work and assist proposal development.

POSITION: PROFESSIONAL CIVIL ENGINEER

STATUS: Full Time

STARTING PAY: Salary commensurate with experience level.

HOURS: Monday through Thursday, nine-hour days, and Friday, four-hour day; Additional hours may be required based on project needs

LOCATION: Metairie, Louisiana

Professional Civil Engineer in the Engineering Division; focused on continuing career as a technical expert and/or project manager for Civil Works. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who can meet the challenges defined by our clients and continuously develop himself or herself on a career level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• BS Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering curriculum
• Advanced degree a plus
• 5-10 years of experience as a Professional Engineer
• Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of Louisiana, or the ability to gain registration through reciprocity within 6 months
• Project Management
• Knowledge in AASHTO “A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets”
• Knowledge and understanding of applicable design codes and client's standards
• Design experiences with storm water drainage
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
• Road design experiences with Louisiana DOTD, preferred
• Experience with Microstation, preferred
• Experience with Inroads, preferred

TYPICAL DUTIES:

Duties include, but are not limited to providing engineering and technical support within the Transportation Department through services such as project development, detailed project design, calculation and proposal development, opinion of cost, and technical engineering and inspection for a variety of road projects. Specific examples include:

• Utilizing engineering and CADD software to oversee and/or provide designs for road, drainage and other civil project plans and specifications
• Interpreting electronic surveys to incorporate into plans
• Project management for all phases of design work from inception to final acceptance
• Manage projects to ensure efficient personnel utilization and on time delivery
• Assist in the review of roadway calculations and plan submittals, shop drawing submittals, contractor proposals, requests for information, change orders, etc.
• Performing project cost estimating
• Develop project engineering fees and negotiate engineering contract scope of work Performing QA/QC reviews of the design activities of design team members
• Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals
• Assist in any duties required to deliver a quality product on schedule and within budget
• Assist/support proposal development
