Job summary

The Berkshire Gas Company seeks a Production Utility III in Pittsfield, MA. This union position offers on-site work with entry‑level to mid‑level responsibilities in natural gas operations.

You will support gate stations, regulate pits, and calibration of SCADA and related equipment while following safety rules and procedures. On‑call rotation and residency proximity are required for qualification.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Knowledge of electrical/electronic circuits and safety procedures.
• Ability to troubleshoot instrumentation devices and repair as needed.
• Comfort reading instruction manuals and drawings.
• Ability to lift heavy objects and pass a respirator exam.
• Valid Driver's License and residency in proximity for on-call tasks.

Responsibilities

• Perform or assist with natural gas distribution tasks under supervision.
• Support maintenance at gate stations, plants, pits and meters.
• Assist calibration and upkeep of SCADA and gas-detection equipment.
• Take on additional production/maintenance duties as assigned.
• Participate in on-call rotation and meet qualification requirements.
• Maintain residency within designated proximity for on-call work.

Job Duties:

• Perform or assist with tasks related to natural gas distribution under the direct supervision of qualified personnel.
• Support maintenance activities for gate stations, propane‑air plants, district regulator pits, and industrial meter sets.
• Assist with calibration and upkeep of SCADA systems, gas detection equipment, odorizers, and other related instrumentation.
• Carry out additional operational and maintenance duties within the Production department as assigned.
• Participate in the Production on‑call rotation schedule upon meeting qualification requirements.
• Maintain required residency within designated proximity once fully qualified for on‑call responsibilities.
• Perform other related duties as needed to support departmental operations.

Job Requirements:

• Must have knowledge of and understand electrical, electronic, and telephone circuits.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair instrumentation devices.
• Ability to work from instruction manuals and assembly drawings.
• Ability to lift heavy objects directly from the ground or from overhead.
• Display knowledge of safety procedures and rules of the company.
• High school diploma or equivalent GED.
• Valid Driver's License.
• Be able to pass a full-face respirator medical exam.

Skills/Abilities:

• Effective problem-solving skills with attention to detail and the analytical ability to evaluate complex data and apply good judgment to take appropriate follow up actions as needed while working without close supervision.
• Strong PC skills along with proficient knowledge and use of Microsoft Excel and word applications.
• Use of hand tools.
• Must have good organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
• Must possess dexterity for operating hand and power tools in a safe manner.
• Must be highly productive and results oriented and willing to work in a team environment.
• Ability to work in underground and confined space regulator vaults.
• Ability to work in all weather conditions.
