Job summary

The Manufacturing Software Test Engineer (MSTE) at General Motors will lead the strategy and continuous improvement of Production Test Systems across vehicle assembly operations. Working with Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, IT, Maintenance, and suppliers, you’ll ensure testing systems are reliable and aligned with quality and production goals.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years in automotive electrical systems, diagnostics, or related tech.
  • ASE Certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of GM Manufacturing System (GMS) and CI methods.
  • Experience with GM diagnostic tools and systems.
  • Experience with manufacturing software test processes (JIRA, SPPS or DVT).
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, quality, testing, or vehicle launches.
  • Experience with end-of-line test, flash, or related processes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage Production Test System strategies to support vehicle quality, defect prevention, and Electrical First‑Time Quality (E‑FTQ) goals.
  • Ensure test systems are production‑ready, validated, and optimized for new vehicle launch and steady‑state manufacturing operations.
  • Partner with cross‑functional teams to resolve test‑related issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee test software changes, test content governance, and compliance with manufacturing and quality requirements while working with Vehicle Engineering.
  • Analyze test data to identify trends, improve test effectiveness, reduce false failures, and enhance operational performance.
  • Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions related to test system and vehicle quality concerns.
  • Support training, standardization, and best practices for plant teams and stakeholders.
  • Communicate tester performance, quality metrics, risks, and improvement opportunities to leadership and partners.
  • Promote safe, compliant, and ergonomic testing processes and equipment across operations.
