Job description

Rheinmetall Electronics UK (REUK) Ltd operates internationally, designing and manufacturing advanced electronics products and systems for the communications, defence, security, and government services market.

The production organisation within the business is responsible for the manufacture and release of hardware products. Goods must be produced to a consistent standard that meets customer needs, statutory, regulatory, and internal requirements. Production technicians apply their experience and practical knowledge to produce items to these standards repeatedly.

In addition to manufacturing, the production organisation strives for continuous improvement. Technicians are encouraged to identify problems or opportunities and collaborate on robust improvements to enhance efficiency and quality.

Employees are involved in activities such as process auditing to develop awareness of broader business operations, ensuring the team remains responsive to customer needs.

We are expanding our team and are recruiting an aspiring Production Technician based in Newport, Isle of Wight.

Responsibilities and Tasks

1. Testing printed circuit boards (PCBs) to confirm functionality meets specifications.
2. Programming PCBs before mechanical assembly.
3. Assembling mechanical, electrical, and electronic components according to engineering drawings and procedures.
4. Assembling cable harnesses, including preparation and crimping with specialist tools.
5. Calibrating electro-optic subassemblies and finished products using specialized in-house equipment.
6. Conducting functional testing based on written procedures and acceptance criteria.
7. Performing visual inspections of finished products against defined criteria.
8. Investigating and repairing products that fail tests or inspections.
9. Documenting build, test, and calibration activities thoroughly.
10. Sharing knowledge with team members, especially new hires.
11. Participating in continuous improvement activities such as problem reporting and process audits.
12. Maintaining a safe and clean working environment in compliance with procedures and regulations.
13. Supporting other duties within the operations department as needed.

Skills

• Ability to interpret technical documentation, drawings, schematics, and instructions.
• Excellent hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
• Willingness to perform repetitive tasks while sitting or standing for extended periods.
• Good visual depth perception and ability to differentiate colors.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to read and prepare documentation in English.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a production technician or similar role.
• Experience in electronic assembly and testing preferred.
• Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes and equipment.
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Qualifications such as IPC-610, IPC-620, JSTD-001 are preferred.

Full-time, 37.5 hours per week. Salary dependent on experience and qualifications.
