An established industry player is seeking a dedicated Swing Technician to support lighting, audio, and rigging for various events at a premier performing arts center. This hands-on role involves working closely with production management to ensure technical excellence and safety compliance. The Peace Center is a major, nonprofit performing arts center serving a growing and sophisticated audience in Greenville, South Carolina. It is the dominant performing arts center in the State and region. Built on a six-acre campus with an aesthetic mix of new architecture and historic buildings, the campus is at the hub of Greenville’s nationally recognized downtown.
The Peace Center venues include the 2,115-seat Peace Concert Hall, the 400-seat Gunter Theatre, the 1,400-capacity outdoor Peace Pavilion, Genevieve’s Lounge, and the Huguenot Mill which includes two event spaces: the Ramsaur Studio and the Huguenot Loft. Opening in 2025 will be two additional music venues: the 250-seat Mockingbird (a listening room), and the 1,150-capacity Coach Factory (a flat-floor club).
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Production, the Swing Technician is a hands-on position responsible for lighting, audio, and rigging related to shows and events at the Peace Center and may act as stage manager and perform production management-related duties for assigned shows.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES (Include, but are not limited to)
• Work as a stagehand, stage carpenter, rigger, electrician, board operator, and/or stage manager to
deliver technical requirements for events and performances.
• As assigned by Production Management, manage and complete projects including the review of
show riders, line set schedules, stage plots, rigging plots, light plots, crew calls, and various other
reports and correspondence. Advance performances and communicate production needs with the
Peace Center production team and touring personnel.
• Develop a complete and thorough knowledge of carpentry, rigging, lighting, and audio systems to
operate equipment safely.
• Identify technical problems, design issues, or equipment limitations, and notify the appropriate
client and management staff.
• Supervise staff and local labor during scheduled calls to ensure proper use of house equipment and
efficient use of labor.
• Adhere to and promote all OSHA, NFPA, and NEC regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of
all production elements. Maintain a safe and orderly working environment at all times.
• Guide, train, and mentor casual crew who are interested in taking on more responsibility within the
field.
• Complete all other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in general stagecraft techniques and console operation.
• Complete stagecraft skillset is necessary including knowledge of stage, lighting, and audio
equipment including industry-standard safety practices, operating practices, and demonstrated
experience implementing, using, and maintaining such systems.
• Knowledge of the needs of all departments associated with theatrical production, including load-
ins, performances, load-outs, and maintenance calls.
• Experience with troubleshooting and repair of production equipment and systems.
• Knowledge of basic principles and methods of stage management.
• Proficiency operating theatre systems and communications for cue calls.
• Ability to operate or train to operate various lifts and heavy equipment.
• Ability to obtain an OSHA 30 course completion card.
• ETCP certification or ability to become ETCP certified is an asset.
