Placements24 is seeking a Production Systems Engineer for a well-established manufacturing company in Welkom, Free State. You will analyze production lines, design new systems, and drive improvements to efficiency, safety, and quality on-site.

The role involves leading time and motion studies, capacity planning, SOPs, and cross-functional collaboration with maintenance and QA. A 4+ year background in production or industrial engineering and strong Lean skills are required.

About the Role

Our client, a well-established manufacturing company in Welkom , Free State , is seeking a driven and analytical Production Systems Engineer . This role is pivotal in enhancing the efficiency, productivity, and quality of manufacturing operations through systematic analysis and improvement of production systems. You will be responsible for identifying bottlenecks, optimizing workflows, and implementing best practices to ensure smooth and cost-effective production. Working closely with production teams, quality assurance, and maintenance departments, you will play a key role in continuous improvement initiatives. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a significant industrial player in the Free State region, focusing on tangible improvements within a manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze existing production lines and manufacturing processes to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and areas for improvement.


• Design, develop, and implement new production systems, layouts, and workflows to enhance efficiency, safety, and quality.


• Utilize Lean Manufacturing principles (e.g., 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping) to drive continuous improvement.


• Conduct time and motion studies, capacity planning, and material flow analysis.


• Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for production processes.


• Collaborate with the maintenance department on equipment reliability and preventative maintenance strategies.


• Monitor production performance metrics and KPIs, reporting on key findings and recommendations.


• Support the introduction of new products and processes into the manufacturing environment.


• Facilitate training sessions for production staff on new systems and process improvements.


• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality standards within the production environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.


• Minimum of 4 years of experience in a production engineering or industrial engineering role within a manufacturing setting.


• Strong practical knowledge and application of Lean Manufacturing principles and tools.


• Proficiency in data analysis, process mapping, and problem-solving techniques.


• Experience with manufacturing execution systems (MES) or ERP systems is beneficial.


• Excellent analytical and technical skills.


• Good communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work with cross-functional teams.


• Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.


• Residency in or willingness to relocate to Welkom , Free State . This role requires full-time on-site presence.
