Job summary

Silgan Containers is seeking motivated individuals to enter a Plant Supervisor training track, with progression to higher management within the organization. The program assimilates entry‑level through mid‑level trainees into the Silgan manufacturing environment.

As a trainee, you will learn to manage safety, quality, SOPs, and production, develop staff, and align with labor contracts in union plants. Relocation may be required as you build broad operational expertise and leadership.

Qualifications

• College degree or relevant work/training experience.
• 2–5+ years of experience, with supervisor or managerial experience preferred.
• Strong mechanical and manufacturing background.
• Excellent leadership and written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to problem solve and manage performance.
• Read blueprints and basic computer knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Train personnel, apply safety procedures, observe areas for safety improvements.
• Apply SPC principles and basic quality tools (diagrams, charts, analyses).
• Train procedures, manage equipment, maximize production.
• Enforce SOPs, review standard reporting, learn factory organization.
• Develop and mentor employees; direct and assign work.
• Administer labor contract in union plants.
• Administer established standards; inspect workforce and materials.
• Analyze reports and perform other duties as assigned by Plant Manager.

Job description

Silgan Containers is looking to train highly motivated and qualified individuals to assume Plant Supervisor or higher management positions within the organization. This position is designed to assimilate both entry‑level through mid‑level Management Trainees into the Silgan Manufacturing environment over time. Candidates will be required to learn, understand, and positively impact 5 Key Plant Control Factors – Safety, Quality, Standard Operating Requirements, Employee Relations, and Operational Excellence Tools. This position will not have any immediate subordinates and may be required to relocate.

What you’ll do

• Train personnel, apply written safety procedures, observe work areas for safety improvements, and learn investigative processes.
• Apply SPC principles and basic quality tools (diagrams, flow/run/control charts, analysis, etc.).
• Train procedures, manage equipment, maximize production throughout.
• Learn factory organizations, enforce SOPs, and review standard reporting.
• Develop and mentor employees.
• Direct and assign work.
• Administer Labor contract in union plants.
• Administer established standards.
• Personal inspection of workforce, material usage, and production.
• Analyze reports.
• Other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager.

What you need to have

• College Degree (or relevant work/training experience).
• Level (2) to mid-level (5 plus) years’ experience.
• Supervisor or managerial experience preferred.
• Strong mechanical and manufacturing background preferred.
• Excellent leadership, written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to problem solve.
• Performance management skills.
• Technical and mechanical aptitude, ability to read blueprints and descriptions.
• Basic computer knowledge, including statistical knowledge.
