Job summary

Sabert Corporation in Chicago, IL is seeking a Production Supervisor to lead the production staff during the assigned shift, ensuring the schedule is met safely and within quality standards. You will manage resources, assign tasks, and coordinate with maintenance to keep lines running efficiently.

This role requires strong communication and cost-control discipline. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in high-volume manufacturing, with packaging experience, and familiarity with SAP.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or better in a business or technical field.
  • Six Sigma certification (Green/Black Belt) is preferred but not required.
  • 5+ years of experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment, preferably with packaging.
  • 2+ years of folding carton, corrugated, or printed packaging experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the production schedule.
  • Identify and secure resources (people, materials).
  • Schedule and assign work, adjust priorities as needed.
  • Control direct labor, materials, and costs to budget.
  • Monitor production progress to meet goals and address issues.
  • Coordinate with maintenance for equipment reliability.
  • Ensure smooth shift transitions and coordination with other staff.

Brief Description

The Production Supervisor is responsible for providing management, guidance, and direction to production staff while overseeing all operations that occur during the assigned shift. The production supervisor ensures production schedule is achieved at expected costs, while meeting standards for safety and quality.

Essential Functions & Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the Production Schedule
  • Identifies and secures necessary resources (people, materials, etc.)
  • Schedules and assigns work to staff, managing and adjusting priorities
  • Manage direct labor, materials, and other related costs to budget
  • Monitors production process and progress in terms of meeting production goals; trouble-shoots problems as necessary
  • Ensures proper functioning of equipment by coordinating with maintenance and other departments as needed
  • Coordinates with incoming/outgoing shift leader and other staff as needed to ensure a smooth transition between shifts
Provide People Leadership
  • Participates in the recruitment and selection of staff as needed
  • Provides ongoing training and development of staff members on the shift
  • Fosters a positive work environment through open and ongoing communications and an atmosphere of teamwork for staff
  • Provides performance feedback to staff; recognizes good performance through multiple means; provides coaching, counseling or progressive discipline as needed
  • Resolves work and interpersonal conflicts as needed
  • Establishes an environment that motivates and engages the staff to achieve desired results
Ensure Compliant Operations
  • Ensures a safe work environment by operating within and enforcing organization standards; ensures staff follows all safety policies and procedures
  • Maintains clean work area consistent with GMP guidelines
  • Maintains quality production by operating within and enforcing organization standards
  • Maintains a continuous improvement atmosphere; seeks to identify & recommend ways to streamline processes, reduce waste or enhance production
Reporting and Record-keeping
  • Ensures that all production hours are entered in SAP for each line on each shift
  • Ensures work hours are accurately reported and maintained in KRONOS
  • Ensures that all quality checks are completed for each line during each shift
  • Sends out required shift update once information is entered at the end of their shift
  • Handles other special projects and initiatives related to the management of the shift as needed and as assigned
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience
Required Skills And Education
  • Associates degree in a business, or technical discipline preferred
  • Six Sigma Certification (Green Belt or Black Belt) preferred but not required
  • 5+ years’ experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment. Union environment a plus.
  • 2 + years’ experience in folding carton, corrugated, printed packaging strongly preferred
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task in high volume, fast paced work environment with a biased towards action.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with all employees through senior leadership level.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing systems and best practices; familiarization with SAP,
  • Bilingual Spanish a plus
