Overview

Graham Packaging Company is looking to fill the role of Production Supervisor at their Recycling Plant in York, PA. Production Supervisors are responsible for supervising hourly employees engaged in all phases of the manufacture of Post Consumer Resin (PCR). Duties include safety, quality, customer service, housekeeping, training, performance management, plant productivity, labor utilization, warehousing, and control of raw materials.

This opening is for 3rd Shift, 10:30 PM to 7:30 AM, Sunday night through Friday morning. Sunday hours are 8:30 PM to 7:30 AM for start-up.

Responsibilities

The primary duties of a Production Supervisor include:

  • Understanding, following, and enforcing all established safety, health, quality GMP, and company policies, procedures, and recognized practices.
  • Exercising authority and independent judgment on the shift to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, discipline, or effectively recommend such actions by following established policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Managing shift functions such as personnel training, development, safety, security, quality, inventory, housekeeping, and general management of company policies and procedures.
  • Resolving all production and quality problems occurring on their shift, including frequent checks of product quality.
  • Providing shift documentation on decisions, issues, actions, and updates for compliance and continuous quality improvement (CQI).
  • Attending all production and safety meetings and conducting shift meetings as required.
  • Reviewing and authorizing time records for all employees on the shift.
  • Managing temporary staffing to achieve production and labor objectives.
  • Managing machine utilization to meet or exceed efficiency goals and recommending or directing necessary personnel, maintenance, or engineering changes.
  • Developing new methods and procedures to optimize efficiencies, maximize labor utilization, and reduce operating costs as part of CQI.
  • Assisting in reviewing shift operations and making recommendations regarding changes in operations, staffing, equipment, and procedures.
  • Participating in physical inventories according to company procedures.
  • Maintaining a supportive and productive work atmosphere through professional conduct and effective communication.
  • Participating in job safety training and following all plant rules and work procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Executing leader standard work daily.
  • Travel may be required, up to 25%.
Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree and/or related operations experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a supervisory or management role in manufacturing with demonstrated leadership skills is preferred.

  • Ability to maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance.
  • Proficiency in computer usage and typing skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and provide exemplary customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and complete assignments within given instructions and routines.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Team collaboration and proactive contribution to group objectives.
Compensation and Benefits

The salary range is aligned with legal mandates; final compensation depends on qualifications and experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, basic life insurance, 401K, wellness programs, paid time off, and other company policies.
