1.0 POSITION SUMMARY

The Production Supervisor leads and coordinates Finishing operations to support safe, efficient production of quality products in accordance with customer specifications, company procedures, applicable Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and safety requirements. The position oversees Finishing personnel across all shifts, provides primary oversight of the Quality Control Technician, manages departmental workflow and resources, and partners with Operations, Customer Service, Shipping, Warehouse, Human Resources, vendors, and customers. The role exercises discretion and independent judgment while promoting continuous improvement, accountability, teamwork, employee development, and on-time delivery.

2.0 REQUIREMENTS

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

PAST EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE

Three to five years of printing, converting, finishing, or related manufacturing experience; at least two years of lead or supervisory experience preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.

EDUCATION

High school diploma or equivalent required. Additional education or training in printing, manufacturing, operations, quality, or supervision is preferred.

3.0 POSITION MAIN DUTIES

Production Leadership and Shift Coordination

• Direct and supervise the daily work of Finishing employees across first and second shifts.
• Establish production priorities, assign coverage, coordinate breaks and overtime, and maintain clear handoffs during the shift overlap.
• Review press, finishing, and post-production schedules and adjust staffing and workflow according to delivery requirements, ready dates, material availability, and changing production needs.
• Monitor departmental productivity, quality, and workflow to support customer commitments and operating objectives.
• Provide hands-on production support when workload, staffing, or operating priorities require it.

Workflow and Cross-Functional Coordination

• Work closely with the Operations Coordinator and Customer Service to communicate job status, priorities, constraints, and completion dates.
• Manage incoming Customer Service requests for rewinds, rework, and reinspections, ensuring each request is assigned, tracked, and completed promptly.
• Coordinate with Operations, Scheduling, Warehouse, and Shipping to maintain the efficient flow of materials and finished goods.

Quality Control and Procedure Compliance

• Oversee finishing quality, including verification of color, content, paperwork, customer specifications, and finishing requirements.
• Work directly with press and finishing operators to investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve quality issues.
• Approve completed work within assigned authority and elevate significant concerns to the Operations Manager or Quality team.
• Confirm that required double checks, quality checks, operating procedures, work instructions, and production records are consistently completed and documented.
• Develop and support corrective and preventive actions that reduce defects, waste, and repeat quality issues.

Quality Control Technician Oversight and Backup

• Provide primary oversight of the Quality Control Technician by establishing priorities, reviewing work, and ensuring timely follow-through.
• Serve as backup for Quality Control Technician duties when needed.
• Oversee raw-material claims and related correspondence, communicate with vendors regarding consumables, and correspond with customers when quality issues arise.
• Develop, document, and track corrective actions for quality issues.
• Prepare and mail product samples and Certificates of Analysis.

Finished Goods and Shipping Coordination

• Support finished-goods inventory activity by preparing materials for transfer, generating releases in LabelTraxx, and reviewing production schedules for ready dates.
• Coordinate with Shipping to ensure completed goods are accurately identified, palletized, staged, documented, and organized for transfer.
• Prepare the outgoing shipping report with the Operations Manager and provide a clear handoff to the Shipping department.
• Ensure inventory movements and production completions are recorded accurately.

Inventory and Purchasing

• Monitor finishing consumables and supplies, including cores, tape, boxes, cartons, and related materials.
• Purchase or submit replenishment requests through approved vendors and internal processes.
• Work with Warehouse and Finishing personnel to keep inventory labeled, stored neatly, and available for scheduled work.
• Support inventory accuracy and periodic audits as required.

People Management and Administration

• Interview, recruit, onboard, train, and cross-train finishing employees in partnership with Human Resources and management.
• Provide coaching, address attendance, conduct, and performance concerns, and complete annual performance reviews objectively and consistently.
• Review department time punches weekly and submit timecards and required punch documentation to Human Resources.
• Maintain accurate departmental records, reports, production documentation, and quality records.
• Participate in production meetings and communicate departmental priorities, risks, and results to management.

Safety, Housekeeping, and Compliance

• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly finishing department and ensure employees follow safety rules, GMP requirements, work instructions, and company policies.
• Provide required safety and equipment training, tools, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Conduct or support accident investigations and coordinate corrective actions promptly.
• Support the implementation and maintenance of the company Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP).
• Promote accountability, teamwork, consistent communication, and continuous improvement across both shifts.
• Perform special projects and other related duties as directed by the Operations Manager or General Manager.
