Job description

Lead Precision Manufacturing at 5th Axis

At 5th Axis, we’re global leaders in precision machining, automated production, and turnkey manufacturing solutions. From advanced workholding systems to zero-point technology, we design, build, and deliver solutions that empower machinists and manufacturers worldwide.

If you’re an experienced manufacturing professional who knows how to lead people, solve production challenges, and keep safety, quality, and delivery on track, this is your opportunity to make an impact.

Lead the Shift, Build the Team, and Deliver Results

As a Production Supervisor, you’ll lead production employees during your assigned shift while overseeing daily workflow, staffing, employee assignments, productivity, quality, and safety.

You’ll work closely with the Production Manager, other supervisors, and cross-functional teams to remove obstacles, strengthen employee performance, and ensure production goals are achieved safely and efficiently.

This is a hands-on leadership role in a CNC and precision-manufacturing environment. The right candidate will combine practical manufacturing knowledge with strong employee coaching, accountability, and problem-solving skills.

What the Job Looks Like
  • You begin the shift by reviewing priorities, staffing needs, and employee assignments.
  • You monitor production performance and address issues affecting safety, quality, delivery, productivity, or workflow.
  • A quality concern is identified—you inspect the issue, contain the problem, and coordinate the appropriate response.
  • Equipment or material issues disrupt production—you work with the appropriate teams to restore workflow.
  • An employee needs additional training or performance coaching—you provide clear direction and document the conversation appropriately.
  • You coordinate with other supervisors and departments to keep production activities aligned.
What You’ll Do Here
  • Lead, train, coach, and supervise production employees during the assigned shift.
  • Oversee daily workflow, staffing, employee assignments, and production priorities.
  • Monitor employee attendance, performance, productivity, quality, safety, and compliance with company policies.
  • Provide timely performance feedback and participate in employee evaluations.
  • Coach employees to strengthen their skills and address performance gaps.
  • Administer coaching and corrective action in coordination with the Production Manager and Human Resources.
  • Participate in interviewing and selecting production employees when appropriate.
  • Monitor shift-level production performance and identify issues affecting safety, quality, delivery, productivity, or workflow.
  • Escalate broader operational constraints to the Production Manager.
  • Inspect products, address defects, and help ensure established quality requirements are met.
  • Identify and resolve issues involving processes, materials, equipment, staffing, or employee skills.
  • Train and lead employees in accordance with ISO 9001 quality standards.
  • Ensure equipment is safe and operational and coordinate prompt action when issues arise.
  • Complete and verify production records, reports, and other required documentation.
  • Collaborate with managers, supervisors, and support departments to align production activities and priorities.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable safety, health, organizational, and manufacturing requirements.
What You’ll Bring
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least three years of relevant CNC machining or precision-manufacturing experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CNC machining, manufacturing processes, tooling, workholding, and production flow.
  • Prior supervisory, lead, or team‑leadership experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong leadership, employee‑coaching, and performance‑management skills.
  • The ability to manage daily production priorities and respond effectively to changing conditions.
  • The ability to read and interpret blueprints, setup sheets, work instructions, and manufacturing documentation.
  • A strong understanding of quality requirements and manufacturing safety practices.
  • Strong organizational, time‑management, and problem‑solving skills.
  • The ability to communicate clearly and coordinate effectively across departments.
  • Experience working in a quality‑controlled manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Proficiency with ERP or MRP systems; Epicor experience is preferred.
Who This Role Is Ideal For
  • Experienced CNC machinists or manufacturing leads ready to move into formal supervision.
  • Production supervisors who prefer leading from the floor and staying connected to daily operations.
  • People‑focused leaders who can balance employee support with performance accountability.
  • Manufacturing professionals who are comfortable addressing safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and staffing priorities.
  • Leaders who can coach employees, resolve problems, and make timely decisions in a fast‑moving environment.
  • Supervisors who value cross‑functional teamwork, accurate documentation, and consistent application of company expectations.
Why You’ll Love Working With Us
  • Competitive pay with performance‑based bonus opportunities
