Job summary

MSA Safety in Pittsfield, NH is seeking a Production Supervisor to lead a value stream on first shift (6:00 AM–3:30 PM) with occasional overtime. You will oversee safety, staffing, quality, delivery, and cost performance, driving continuous improvement and using the MSA Operating System to root cause issues.

The role demands strong leadership, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration with HR, Safety, Engineering, and Quality teams. Travel is limited.

Qualifications

  • Associates or higher in business or related field preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field preferred.
  • Experience in Lean, Six Sigma, continuous improvement, and EHS initiatives.
  • Experience working in manufacturing or warehouse with KPI tracking.

  • Drive productivity improvements through process innovation and teamwork.

Responsibilities

1st Shift - Monday through Friday - 6:00 AM to 3:30 PM Monday through Friday and overtime as business needs demand

As Production Supervisor you’ll be able to demonstrate your strong organizational and decision-making skills by being responsible for safety, staffing, quality, delivery, cost performance, and continuous improvement for their assigned value stream. Exhibit your leadership abilities and interpersonal skills while reporting to the Production Manager and leading a team of highly skilled associates.

In this role you will be responsible for the following:

Production / Budgetary:
  • Meet with Supply Chain staff daily to discuss issues such as material shortages and customer demand.
  • Make adjustments appropriately.
  • Prepare annual department budget and monitor results on a monthly basis.
  • Manage job-closeout variances.
  • Work effectively with all plant support groups i.e. HR, Safety, Industrial Engineering, Quality, Engineering groups as required.
  • Meeting schedule delivery commitments through adjusting staffing to balance workflow to maximize throughput.
  • Teamwork with other Supervisors to share resources as needed to ensure cut convergence at shipping.
  • Monitoring value stream quality and productivity to identify and resolve problem areas.
  • Driving productivity improvement through process innovation, teamwork and operator engagement.
  • Using the MSA Operating System to work on a structured problem-solving methodology to ensure preventive/corrective actions are focused on the true root cause.
Employee Relations / Communication:
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Recommend and make decisions regarding hiring, discipline, terminations, transfers, and promotions, seeking managerial guidance as appropriate. Addressing employees' personal and work-related issues.
  • Drive execution of Behavior Based Safety, Continuous Improvement and Customer Satisfaction initiatives. Ensuring all equipment is in safe operating condition and all safety concerns are immediately addressed.
  • Ensuring all employees are trained to perform the required job functions. Driving cross-training to minimize the impact of vacation and absence.
  • Lead daily KPI huddles and drive utilization of the MSA Operating System tools.
  • Enforce MSA policies and procedures ensuring accountability for compliance.
Other
  • Ensuring compliance to ISO 9001 procedures and production work instructions.
  • Review, sign-off, and reconcile purchasing card transactions.
  • Up to 5% domestic travel is required.
Qualifications
Special knowledge, skills and abilities required:
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and knowledge of ABS/AS400.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities to promote teamwork, delegation, individual responsibility, and positive employee morale. Ability to coach, develop, cross train and mentor staff, build and foster good working relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong decision-making skills including the ability to identify project obstacles and creatively develop alternative solutions.
  • Familiar with ISO 9001 quality standards.
Education Required:
  • Levels I and II - Associates degree in Business related field, or educational academic equivalent.
  • Level III - Bachelor's degree in preferably Engineering discipline or educational academic equivalent.
Experience Required:
  • Level I - One year supervisory or leadership experience (this can include Group Leader experience), and two years working experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
  • Level II - Two years supervisory or leadership experience (this can include Group Leader experience), and three years working experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
  • Level III - Three years supervisory or leadership experience (this can include Group Leader experience), and four years working experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
Education and experience preferred:
  • Levels I, II and III - Bachelor's degree in Business, Industrial Engineering, or other relevant field.
  • Level III - Master's degree/certification. Professional work-related experience in textile or industrial sewing manufacturing operations.
  • Experience in Lean, 6 sigma, Continuous Improvement, and EHS initiatives.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing setting and managing via KPI's.

Related military experience may be substituted for up to two years of supervisory and / or work experience.
