Job summary

MSA Safety is seeking a Plant Manager for our manufacturing facility in Murrysville, PA. You will provide leadership, set strategy, and drive engagement to achieve objectives while maintaining safety, quality, and on-time delivery.

You will oversee cross-functional collaboration with Engineering, Marketing, and Sales, and lead cost-reduction initiatives, continuous improvement, and new product introductions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the plant by setting strategy, driving engagement, and aligning resources with objectives to deliver results.
  • Build strong cross-functional relationships with Engineering, Marketing, and Sales.
  • Drive safety, compliance (OSHA), and ergonomic programs across all levels of the plant.
  • Ensure production meets design requirements and adheres to the MSA Quality Management System and regulatory standards.
  • Establish processes to meet delivery expectations and customer commitments.
  • Lead continuous improvement and product-cost-reduction initiatives with supply chain and engineering teams.
  • Collaborate with NPD teams to introduce new products on schedule and within budget.
  • Develop and report on plant performance against annual budget and KPIs.

Responsibilities

Now hiring for a Plant Manager at our manufacturing plant in Murrysville, PA.

Leadership:
  • Provide leadership and vision for the organization by setting strategy, driving and improving employee engagement, maintaining the right mix of skill sets, staff size, and development activities to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Establish objectives for direct reports, monitor progress, and provide coaching and support to achieve desired results. Translate broader corporate initiatives into plant specific action plans. Lead / promote use of the MSA Operating System at all levels within the organization.
  • Develop strong working relationships with other key company functions (Engineering, Marketing, Sales, etc.).
  • Create and foster an environment for a High-Performance team.
  • Performance manage and develop the Plant team
Environmental Health and Safety:
  • Drive safe practices in all aspects of the plant. Engage associates to participate in proactive safety and ergonomic programs including Behavior Based Safety, etc. Ensure systems and procedures are in place to meet OSHA and other regulatory compliance.
Quality:
  • Ensure products are produced in accordance with design requirements, production processes adhere to the MSA Quality Management System and regulatory agencies, and customer issues are resolved in a timely manner.
Delivery Performance:
  • Establish production processes / systems to ensure customers’ delivery expectations are met.
Continuous Improvement / Product Cost Reduction:
  • Drive continuous improvement activities; collaborate with supply chain, engineering and continuous improvement groups on projects to reduce product costs.
New Products:
  • Collaborate with NPD teams to introduce new products into production, on schedule and within budget.
Financial Performance:
  • Develop and drive performance to the annual budget. Manage and report on plant performance for customer service, product / process quality, safety, employee relations, and other regulatory financial compliance as needed. Apply business analytics and financial analysis to drive decisions.
Capital Equipment:
  • Identify short- and long-term needs for capital equipment for the plant.

  • Demonstrated leadership to drive execution - Translate strategic priorities into operational reality, aligning communication, accountabilities, resource capabilities, internal processes, and ongoing measurement systems to ensure that strategic priorities yield measurable and sustainable results.
  • Excellent team-building skills, including the ability to select appropriate methods and utilize a flexible interpersonal style to help motivate and build a cohesive team, resulting in successful achievement of goals.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong business and financial acumen to drive organization results.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize a large number of diverse tasks.
  • Ability to project a positive, professional image and drive associate engagement.
  • Excellent decision-making skills and proven ability to delegate decision-making authority to others to maximize the organizations and individual’s effectiveness.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve stated goals and build strong working relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Experience in SIOP process and Supply Chain management.
Special knowledge, skills and abilities preferred:
  • Familiarity with Lean and Six Sigma principles.
  • Familiarity with the MSA Operating System in aligning performance for success to accomplish work objectives.
Education and Experience Required

This position is available at two different career levels depending on experience, education, etc.:

B.S. degree in related field or educational academic equivalent.

Level I
  • 5 or more years production supervision or project management experience.
  • 5 or more years of Production/Plant Management or equivalent Project Management experience.
Level II
  • 5 or more years production supervision or project management experience.
  • 7 or more years of Production/Plant Management or equivalent Project Management experience.
Level III
  • 7 years of production supervision or project management experience.
  • 7 or more years of Production/Plant Management or equivalent Project Management experience.
Education and Experience Preferred
  • Master’s or advanced degree or certification. Experience managing others in supervisory roles as well as multiple departments/multiple shifts.
  • Experience leading Lean, Six-Sigma, Continuous Improvement, or EHS initiatives, or implementing new processes.
