Position Summary:
The Production Supervisor plays a critical role in leading a team of production employees on the shop floor, ensuring that daily output, quality, and safety goals are met. This hands-on position involves planning and coordinating production activities, resolving problems in real time, coaching employees, and supporting operational improvements. The ideal candidate has strong leadership skills, mechanical aptitude, and a passion for developing a safe, efficient, and high-performance team culture.
Salary Range: $80,000 - $105,000 per year.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and supervise the daily activities of a team of production workers in a transmission assembly environment.
- Assign tasks and adjust workloads to meet production targets and customer delivery schedules.
- Monitor work in progress and provide direction to ensure timelines and priorities are met.
- Collaborate with scheduling, warehouse, and quality control teams to ensure smooth workflow.
- Ensure all team members follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
- Monitor quality during and after production to identify issues or trends requiring corrective action.
- Support root cause investigations of defects and drive corrective action.
- Recommend improvements to methods, equipment, and processes to enhance quality and reduce rework.
- Provide clear instructions, expectations, and feedback to team members.
- Train new and existing employees on work instructions, safety procedures, and company policies.
- Address performance issues promptly and escalate when needed.
- Foster a positive, team-oriented culture that supports employee engagement and retention.
- Ensure team compliance with all health and safety regulations, including PPE usage and proper equipment handling.
- Conduct safety inspections and daily start-up checks; promptly report safety incidents or near misses.
- Participate in safety meetings and initiatives to promote continuous awareness.
- Maintain accurate records of daily production, downtime, and labor usage.
- Submit shift reports and updates to management highlighting issues, output, and resource needs.
- Participate in daily production meetings and contribute to planning and problem-solving efforts.
- Participate in lean manufacturing initiatives, 5S programs, and Kaizen activities.
- Identify process inefficiencies and work with management to implement solutions.
- Support the rollout of new tools, technologies, or workflows as the business evolves.
- Other duties assigned by your supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Work with HR on workforce planning, recruitment, and employee relations issues.
- Lead, motivate, and manage a team of machinists, technicians, and support staff.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to drive employee development.
- Identify skill gaps and coordinate training programs to enhance workforce capabilities.
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, quality, and safety.
- Address employee concerns and foster a positive, inclusive workplace environment.
Working Conditions:
- Production facility environment.
- Steel toes and other personal protective equipment required.
- Minimum 10 years in a production role within a manufacturing or precision machining environment.
- Minimum 3 years of leadership or supervisory experience in a production setting.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, manufacturing, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven leadership and team-building abilities.
- Experience developing and analyzing KPIs to drive performance improvements.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience managing operations in a small business or business unit setting.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
- Proficiency with ERP systems, inventory management software, and data analysis tools.
- Must be legally authorized to work in USA.
