2nd Shift Production Supervisor – Food Manufacturing

We are seeking a dedicated 2nd Shift Production Supervisor to join our food manufacturing facility in Melrose Park, IL. In this role, you will oversee a team of roughly 20 staff members, ensuring that daily operations run smoothly while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and production output.
This position is ideal for a hands-on leader with a background in food manufacturing who is passionate about mentoring staff and optimizing production efficiency.
- Monday through Thursday: Roughly 3:30 PM to 12:30 AM
- Friday: Generally a reduced shift duration
- Location: Based on-site in Melrose Park, IL
Core Responsibilities
- Direct, mentor, and supervise a production team of about 20 individuals
- Organize daily tasks to ensure all output, quality, and scheduling goals are achieved
- Oversee personnel allocation, task delegation, and operational priorities
- Track key performance indicators including labor efficiency, waste, downtime, and output
- Resolve operational, material, or equipment challenges to maintain shift continuity
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Sanitation, Maintenance, Warehouse, and Quality departments
- Help maintain a safe working environment by ensuring strict adherence to food safety, sanitation, and GMP protocols
- Instruct staff on operational standards, safety protocols, and standard operating procedures
- Oversee team development, attendance tracking, and performance accountability
- Maintain accurate records and shift-related documentation
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying ways to minimize waste and boost overall team productivity
Required Qualifications
- Proven background in food manufacturing or food production environments
- Previous experience in a leadership capacity such as a Shift Manager, Manufacturing Supervisor, or Production Supervisor
- Demonstrated success managing teams of 20 or more personnel
- Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish to facilitate clear communication with the production floor
- Must hold U.S. Citizenship or a valid, fully executed Green Card
- Strong capability in managing daily workflows, staffing needs, and production schedules
- Solid understanding of workplace safety, quality standards, sanitation, and GMPs
- Ability to foster a culture of accountability regarding production targets and safety standards
- Flexibility to work the designated 2nd-shift schedule
Technical & Manufacturing Expertise
The following experience is highly beneficial:
- Expertise in food processing and manufacturing environments
- Knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, allergen controls, and preventive food safety measures
- Proficiency in managing production workflows and scheduling
- Experience with shift reporting and operational documentation
- Competence in managing labor and staffing requirements
- Tracking metrics related to yield, scrap, waste, and efficiency
- Applying root-cause analysis to resolve operational issues
- Implementation of Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives
- Troubleshooting equipment and process-related malfunctions
- Development and application of SOPs and standardized work
- Familiarity with OSHA safety standards in a manufacturing setting
- Experience utilizing ERP or production management software
- Data analysis skills using Microsoft Excel
