The opportunity:
The Supervisor, Manufacturing Operations, is responsible for engaging their team to achieve safe predictable results every shift.
How you will impact WestRock:
- Responsible for safety, quality, cost, productivity, training, and housekeeping throughout the entire mill.
- Ensures all Shift Team members complete all annual safety training.
- Manages shift maintenance techs and sets shift maintenance priorities across the mill.
- Reallocates Line/Shift Team resources and requests additional resources to support Shift Team efforts.
- Work with Line Team Coordinator and Qualified Area Technicians to understand and resolve safety, quality, and process issues in all areas of the mill.
- Models mill Core Values, positively reinforcing team behaviors consistent with the values.
- Conducts successful team meetings both at the start of shift and during upset conditions.
- Facilitates the team’s use of systematic work procedures and effective decision-making processes.
- Participates in identifying, developing, and improving systems, processes, and procedures that are aligned to support mill success.
- Ensures team members maintain healthy work relationships, facilitating the resolution of conflict at the earliest possible stage.
- Facilitates team planning and goal setting process, ensuring team gets regular feedback on the accomplishment of its objectives.
- Maintain an environment of continuous improvement where team members routinely look for more efficient and effective ways to safely accomplish their tasks.
- Educate and develop accountability throughout the entire Shift Team.
- Build teamwork across Line Teams, Business Units, and with mill support groups, i.e. Maintenance, Engineering, IT, HR, etc.
- Facilitates team decision-making process; acts as "decision maker" when situation warrants.
- Drives team members to take action to solve problems.
- Leads response of any safety or environmental incidents that happen.
- Ensures clear understanding and effective use of the quality management system throughout shift team.
- Performs weekly housekeeping audits and coordinates corrective actions.
- Participates in Line Team Focus Five meetings.
- Point of contact for Mill emergencies such as fire, injury, environmental, or other plant emergencies.
- Contacts Business Unit Leader or Area Coordinator in accordance with established guidelines.
- Evaluates and secures Shift Team coverage, as necessary, for unscheduled vacancies.
- Ensures any appropriate documentation is completed and retained.
- Acts as safety resource for the Shift Team, performing safety audits, behavioral observations, and coordinating corrective actions.
- Ensures LTC’s understand and perform their responsibilities at a superior level, providing training or other corrective action, as needed, to address identified performance gaps.
- Facilitates the coordination of unscheduled downtime tasks.
- Ensures Shift Team is represented on mill Standing Committees and that representatives meet their obligations to these committees.
What you need:
- Current Line Team Coordinator OR four-year degree with 3 years paper mill experience OR a minimum of 10 years paper mill experience.
- Overview of paper mill operations to include OCC, stock approach, paper machine, winders, roll handling and finished goods.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, management, and leadership skills.
- Ability to make tough, immediate decisions in urgent situations.
- Capable of executing a skill development and qualification plan to promote on-shift coverage for (un)planned vacancies.
- Demonstrated safe work practices and behavior.
- Demonstrated successful supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Assertive, desire to drive to resolution.
- Demonstrated computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, OSI PI Systems, Lotus Notes or equivalent.)
- Presents a professional image.
- ISO experience or similar quality management system experience.
