Located in Beloit, Wisconsin, Fairbanks Morse Engine (FME) manufactures, assembles, tests, and distributes heavy-duty, medium-speed reciprocating engines under the Fairbanks Morse and ALCO brand names. Job Description

Position Summary

Plan, direct, and supervise 10-20 direct labor employees who test products to support new engine shipments.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Plan, direct, and supervise employees involved in assembling or testing large engines, including skills in diesel mechanics, piping, assembly, and electrical hookup.
  2. Ensure a safe working environment by adhering to safety policies, assessing hazards, improving housekeeping, conducting incident investigations, and implementing corrective actions.
  3. Develop and execute production and test schedules to meet operational requirements.
  4. Implement productivity improvements through lean initiatives, standard work instructions, and process enhancements.
  5. Motivate, monitor, and counsel employees regarding training and performance issues.
  6. Develop and manage the expense budgets for the test department.

Qualifications, Skills, and Educational Requirements

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in engineering or manufacturing-related field preferred; BS in Marine Engineering is a plus.
  • HS Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in an industrial or marine environment with a proven track record.
  • Excellent communication, project management, and organizational skills.
  • Self-starter with minimal supervision and a results-driven approach.
  • Proficiency in Word and Excel; experience with ERP systems, especially Oracle, is preferred.
  • Formal lean training is strongly desired for visual management and problem-solving.
  • Solid understanding of engineering drawings, technical plans, test procedures, and engine schematics.
  • Experience with large shipboard engines is preferred.
  • Knowledge of electrical and piping systems is required.
  • Previous supervisory experience in a union environment is desirable.
  • Ability to operate large Navy diesel engines is preferred.
