The Opportunity:

The Converting Supervisor will be responsible for the safe and efficient operations of production within the Corrugated Container facility. In this role, you will communicate performance expectations to ensure production targets and metrics are met, achieve production demands, supervise machine productivity and quality, as well as supervise, coach, and mentor team members.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:

  1. Execute safety briefs to team members on designated shift, daily, weekly, monthly, and annually.
  2. Monitor workplace safety environment to identify and address any unsafe conditions.
  3. Ensure compliance with company safety policies, safe work practices, and plant policies.
  4. Monitor and track production daily goals for the Converting machines utilizing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and report results on the plant scorecard.
  5. Manage workforce planning, including fulfillment of work schedules and adherence to attendance policies (vacations, floating days, call ins, etc.).
  6. Communicate effectively with all functional areas of the plant to ensure all production needs are successfully achieved.
  7. Promote positive employee relations and interdepartmental communication and collaboration.
  8. Supervise daily production activities, including oversight of team members, and monitor performance levels of each team member.
  9. Monitor and participate in Daily Management Systems (DMS) to track progress against production goals and enable performance excellence.

What you need to succeed:

  1. High School diploma or G.E.D. - Required.
  2. Bachelor’s degree (Business Management, Engineering or Operations Management) - Preferred.
  3. 3+ years of converting supervisory experience in a packaging facility - Required.
  4. Experience working in a Lean environment; Six Sigma Green or Black Belt Certification.
  5. Proven experience in operations, manufacturing, or supply chain.
  6. Excellent communication and listening skills.
  7. Proven track record of effective problem-solving.
  8. Ability to embrace continuous improvement.
  9. Strong collaboration and teaming skills with stakeholders across functions.
  10. Ability to coach and train employees.
  11. Ability to be an on-shift resource for troubleshooting problems in the process as well as maintenance issues.
  12. Ability to make independent, effective decisions.
  13. Possess the ability to be a self-directed team player.
  14. Flexibility to work multiple shifts.
