Job Description

Shift Supervisor Chemical Production - This is a "Working Supervisor" position, meaning the candidate will operate key/critical equipment and supervise personnel on shift, maintaining quality standards and safety guidelines. The role involves participating in a collaborative team environment to achieve company goals.

* This position follows a rotating shift schedule, including day, evening, and graveyard shifts.

* Pay Range: $28-$34/hour, based on experience, qualifications, and interview.

Requirements
Essential Functions:
  • Operate chemical plant processes and equipment such as reactors, heat exchangers, piping, pumps, boilers, and cooling systems; interpret technical drawings.
  • Open and close valves for proper system operation and mechanical isolation.
  • Adjust controls and override automatic systems to optimize equipment performance, switch to backup systems, or shut down equipment.
  • Enhance operations by maximizing production, improving efficiency, reducing costs, and improving product quality.
  • Manage assigned shifts to meet cost, yield, quality, safety, and production targets.
  • Mentor and direct personnel, including training, performance management, discipline, scheduling, and attendance.
  • Plan and execute daily production and packaging activities.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues related to personnel, production, and process upsets.
  • Prepare work orders for maintenance activities.
  • Manage raw material loading and staging.
  • Oversee packaging of products with automated and manual equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment per quality standards and OSHA regulations.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Minimum of 5+ years in chemical manufacturing with supervisory or management experience leading plant operators.
  • Experience with polymerizations and exothermic reactions.
  • Understanding of utilities like chillers, cooling towers, air compressors, and water systems.
  • Familiarity with reactors, rotary dryers, distillation, solvent removal, solids transport, particle size reduction, and packaging systems.
  • Knowledge of cycle times, bottlenecks, downtime reporting, and quality systems like ISO and CQS.
  • Compliance with OSHA standards for respirator use, confined spaces, and lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Basic computer skills (Word, Excel).
Other Requirements:
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including overtime.
  • Previous forklift experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in English for reading, speaking, and understanding instructions.
