Job summary

Nipro is seeking a shift supervisor to lead a unionized production team at a 24/7 pharmaceutical glass tubing facility. You will ensure safety, quality, and productivity while coordinating across shifts and directing scheduling, payroll, and performance reviews.

You will partner with Production and Quality to resolve issues, drive continuous improvement, and uphold company standards, including ISO compliance and OPEX initiatives.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with union workforce management is preferred.
• Experience in glass manufacturing or similar industrial setting is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet safety and quality targets.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Shift Supervisor is responsible for leading a unionized workforce during an assigned rotating shift at a 24/7 pharmaceutical glass tubing manufacturing facility. This role ensures that all safety, quality, and productivity objectives are met by effectively coordinating personnel, addressing production challenges, and maintaining open communication with both incoming and outgoing shifts. The Supervisor plays a key role in workforce management: including scheduling, payroll processing, and performance reviews.

HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE

• Directs and coordinates the daily activities of the production workforce to meet established safety, quality, and productivity targets.
• Promotes a workplace culture based on teamwork, communication, and accountability.
• Communicates with supervisors across all shifts to ensure seamless hand-offs and operational continuity.
• Collaborates with Production and Quality teams to prioritize production goals, resolve quality concerns, and manage machine or process issues.
• Acts as the first line of response for addressing safety incidents, equipment breakdowns, and workforce challenges.
• Coordinates daily and long-term scheduling to maintain coverage and adjust for absences or workload changes.
• Maintains accurate payroll records and manages time and attendance using internal HRIS system.
• Conducts employee performance evaluations, supports skill development, and ensures adequate cross-training within the team.
• Handles employee relations issues through coaching, counseling, and conflict resolution.
• Monitors shift performance metrics and ensures timely, efficient production and job changes.
• Conducts or assists in workplace investigations to address and resolve workplace issues, ensuring adherence to company policies, the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and legal requirements.
• Supports root-cause analysis and corrective actions for quality or safety incidents.
• Ensures compliance with all safety, health, environmental, quality, ISO, and company standards.
• Leads and coaches teams to drive employee development, engagement, and performance.
• Promotes the 4 C’s: Communication, Commitment, Continuous Improvement, and Customer Satisfaction.
• Drives continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives through the Nipro OPEX model.
• Facilitates process improvements, problem-solving, knowledge sharing, and best practice implementation.
• Provides training, coaching, and support to employees on OPEX processes and standard work.
• Partners with site teams and OPEX coordinators to achieve productivity, quality, and operational goals.
• Monitors and measures improvement initiatives to ensure results are achieved and sustained.
• Identifies opportunities to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize resource utilization.
• Ensures adherence to standard work practices to maintain consistency, quality, and operational performance.
• Participates in Kaizen events and promotes the sharing of best practices across the organization.
• Supports a culture of continuous learning, accountability, and sustained beneficial change.
• Perform other duties as assigned

WHAT YOU BRING TO NIPRO (SKILLS)

• High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree or some college coursework preferred.
• 2–4 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably with union workforce management.
• Experience in glass manufacturing or similar industrial setting is strongly preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
• Working knowledge of manufacturing metrics, quality systems, and lean tools (problem solving)
• Solid organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; SAP knowledge is a plus
• Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop employees
• Must be available to work assigned shift as needed for supervisory coverage, including weekends or holidays.
