Job summary

Placon Corporation in Madison, WI is seeking a hands-on Production Shift Leader to supervise a 24/7 manufacturing operation. You will lead and coach a high-performing team, ensure safety, quality, and schedule adherence, and drive continuous improvement through root-cause analysis and problem-solving.

You will coordinate staffing, training, and reporting while promoting GMP and 5S practices, with a rotating 12-hour shift and a 5% shift premium.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or 6 years leadership experience in manufacturing.
• Hands-on leadership with supervision of production employees.
• Experience with continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, or operational excellence.
• Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds with assistance as required.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop production and support team members.
• Set performance expectations and departmental goals.
• Coordinate training and ongoing skill development.
• Ensure daily production schedules and customer requirements are met.
• Troubleshoot equipment and processes using root-cause analysis.
• Monitor efficiencies and drive continuous improvement efforts.
• Plan staffing, overtime, temporary help, and PTO coverage.
• Prepare operational and production reports.
• Support GMP compliance and documented procedures.
• Collaborate with Production Management on corrective actions and quality initiatives.
• Enforce workplace safety programs and conduct investigations as needed.
• Lead 5S initiatives and maintain a clean, organized environment.
• Manage multiple priorities while preserving quality and safety.

Production Shift Leader

We're looking for an experienced Production Shift Leader to support our Madison, WI facility, who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and is passionate about leading teams, driving operational excellence, and achieving safety, quality, and production goals. Compensation

Competitive salary based on experience. Shift leadership position with comprehensive benefits, profit sharing, and a 5% supervisor shift premium for working the rotating 12-hour schedule.

Work Schedule

Rotational 12-hour shift schedule supporting 24/7 manufacturing operations.

• Day Shift: 6 AM – 6 PM
• Night Shift: 6 PM – 6 AM

Earn an additional 5% Supervisor shift premium for working the rotating 12-hour schedule.

What You'll Do

• Lead, coach, and develop production and production support team members
• Establish and communicate performance expectations and departmental goals
• Coordinate employee training and support ongoing skill development
• Ensure daily production schedules and customer requirements are achieved
• Troubleshoot manufacturing equipment and process issues using root cause analysis
• Monitor production efficiencies and drive continuous improvement efforts
• Plan staffing levels, overtime, temporary staffing, and PTO coverage
• Prepare operational and production reports
• Promote and support quality systems, GMP compliance, and documented procedures
• Partner with Production Management on corrective actions and quality initiatives
• Enforce and promote workplace safety programs and procedures
• Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions
• Support 5S initiatives and maintain a clean, organized manufacturing environment
• Manage multiple priorities while maintaining productivity, quality, and safety standards

What You Bring

• Associate degree in Business, Leadership Development, or a related field and at least two years of leadership experience; OR
• Six years of leadership experience in manufacturing, production, or operations environments
• Previous experience supervising manufacturing or production employees
• Strong leadership, team building, and employee coaching skills
• Experience with continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, or operational excellence initiatives
• Effective problem-solving and root cause analysis capabilities
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong computer proficiency including Microsoft Office applications
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities
• Experience with quality systems, GMP, SPC, or SQF programs preferred
• Commitment to employee development and continuous learning
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment and occasionally lift up to 75 pounds with assistance as required
