Job summary

Calca Solutions in Lake Charles, LA is seeking a Process Improvement Engineer to identify and implement improvements across manufacturing processes. You will oversee capital projects from concept to commissioning and provide mechanical engineering support to maintenance, operations and projects.

The role requires 5–7 years of chemical plant experience and a BS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering. You will lead safety analyses and develop PFDs/ P&IDs, with emphasis on reliability and efficiency.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
• 5–7 years of chemical plant experience.
• Experience with mechanical equipment design, troubleshooting, function, and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Track operating performance and product quality of production units; identify causes of deviations and initiate corrective actions.
• Troubleshoot existing processes and initiate corrective actions to improve operating efficiency.
• Identify and implement improvements to processes to increase capacity, reduce production cost, and improve safety and quality of chemical manufacturing processes.
• Provide technical coverage for plant trials and startups.
• Write operating procedures and provide training for chemical operators.
• Propose changes in programming logic for improved process safety, quality, or production efficiency.
• Develop in depth expertise on process equipment such as reactors, agitators, heat exchangers, pumps, and filters.
• Lead or participate in PPA, JSA, and PHAs teams.

Overview

Identify and implement improvements to processes and procedures that will increase capacity, reduce cost; improve safety and quality of Calca’s global supply chain manufacturing processes. Troubleshoot existing processes to improve operating efficiency. Work in a team environment with operations, maintenance, and administrative Teams. Oversee capital projects from conceptual idea to commissioning. Identify opportunities to improve mechanical and instrumentation reliability. Utilize process improvement methodologies including Lean Six Sigma to increase Calca’s profits.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot existing processes and initiate corrective actions to improve operating efficiency
• Identify and implement improvements to processes and procedures that will increase capacity, reduce production cost, improve safety and quality of chemical manufacturing processes
• Provide technical coverage for plant trials and startups
• Write operating procedures and provide training for chemical operators
• Propose changes in programming logic that will lead to improved process safety, quality, or production efficiency
• Develop in depth expertise on process equipment used at the plants such as reactors, agitators, heat exchangers, pumps, and filters
• Lead or be a member of PPA (potential problem analysis), JSA (job safety analysis) and PHAs (process hazard analysis teams)
• Serves maintenance crafts, operations and projects by assisting with mechanical engineering support
• Develop PFDs, P&IDs, mass and energy balances for modified processes
• Develop project scopes for small capital projects
• Lead capital projects through the full project lifecycle, from project design to commissioning and startup
• Specify new process equipment including updating/revising equipment specification sheets. Work with equipment vendors and operations to aide in selection
• Leads mechanical predictive maintenance program
• Direct and coordinate manufacturing, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements
• Perform data and statistical analysis to make sound processing decisions
• Provide relief coverage for supervision in production units
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

• BS degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
• 5 – 7 years of chemical plant experience
• Experience with mechanical equipment design, troubleshooting, function, and reliability
