Job summary

Boston Group is seeking a Production Planner to coordinate production schedules and manage inventory in Ravenna, Ohio. You will ensure a smooth flow of materials across fabrication, paint, assembly, packaging and shipping, serving as a key link between Production, Purchasing, Engineering, Quality, Shipping, Finance and Operations.

Reporting to Operations leadership, you will also manage a small planning team and work with remote leaders.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years in production planning, scheduling, or related manufacturing operations.
  • Experience in hands-on manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of MRP, production flow, routings, work orders, BOMs.
  • ERP/MRP experience required; Infor/Syteline preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain daily and long-term production schedules aligned with customer commitments.
  • Create clear schedules for fabrication, paint, assembly, packaging, and shipping.
  • Generate and release work orders, travelers, and production docs in ERP/MRP.
  • Partner with Production, Purchasing, Engineering, Quality, Shipping, and Finance.
  • Spend time on the manufacturing floor to address challenges and support the team.
  • Maintain ERP/MRP data accuracy to support planning.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing to monitor material availability and supplier issues.
  • Assess material needs and inventory levels to support production.

Position Overview

The Production Planner will play a critical role in coordinating production activities, managing schedules, supporting inventory accuracy, and ensuring the efficient flow of materials through the manufacturing process. This individual will serve as a key communication link between Production, Purchasing, Engineering, Quality, Shipping, Finance, and Operations.

Reporting to Operations leadership, this position will also manage and support a small planning team, including a junior planner and administrative resource. This individual must also be comfortable reporting to leaders who reside in a remote capacity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, manage, and maintain daily and long-term production schedules to support customer commitments and operational priorities.
  • Create clear schedules and priorities for multiple manufacturing departments, including fabrication, paint, assembly, packaging, and shipping.
  • Generate and release work orders, job travelers, and production documentation through the ERP/MRP system.
  • Serve as a trusted partner to Production, Purchasing, Engineering, Quality, Shipping, and Finance.
  • Spend time on the manufacturing floor understanding challenges, answering questions, and supporting team members.
  • Build strong relationships and credibility by listening, collaborating, and working alongside the team.
  • Maintain accuracy and integrity of ERP/MRP data to support effective planning.
  • Partner closely with Purchasing to monitor material availability, shortages, long lead-time items, and supplier issues.
  • Help evaluate material needs, inventory levels, and purchasing strategies to support production demands.
Qualifications & Skills
  • 5+ years of experience in production planning, scheduling, inventory control, supply chain, or related manufacturing operations.
  • Experience working in a hands-on manufacturing environment required.
  • Strong understanding of MRP principles, production flow, routings, work orders, and bills of materials.
  • ERP/MRP experience required; Infor/Syteline experience preferred. Experience with similar ERP systems will be considered.
