About the Role
This Production Planner will report to the Plant Manager and play a key role in monitoring and managing purchases and materials to ensure on-time delivery.
Position Purpose
- Monitor and manage assigned purchased and manufactured materials to meet delivery deadlines. Interface with external customers and vendors as needed to address concerns, provide updates, and gather information. Perform tasks such as issuing ECNs, job corrections, and reviewing E&O listings as project timelines permit.
- Communicate effectively, demonstrate discipline, and adapt to unforeseen production issues, including demand vs. capacity evaluation, component shortages, and management of production orders.
- Coordinate with various departments such as purchasing, sales, engineering, and accounting to ensure smooth operations.
- Maintain accurate production schedules to support financial reporting and customer commitments.
- Utilize judgment, creativity, and planning skills to meet broad objectives and achieve on-time delivery.
- Review and improve procedures and processes to enhance performance.
- Monitor inventory and shipments to identify errors and address issues like higher E&O reserves, longer lead times, and delivery delays.
- Engage with external contacts, including customers and vendors, as needed.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with manufacturing systems are required.
Position Duties
- Focus on components and subassemblies to meet system-generated job release dates.
- Adjust schedules based on customer requirements and production delays, communicating changes effectively.
- Collaborate with production, engineering, and other stakeholders to resolve issues and maintain delivery commitments.
- Serve as the primary liaison between sales, customer service, engineering, purchasing, and manufacturing regarding order execution.
- Assist in providing standard lead-time updates and investigate solutions to production problems.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives such as Kaizen or 5S events.
- Complete projects supporting business objectives and recommend process improvements for quality and consistency.
- Create ECNs to address production issues and work to reduce inventory on the E&O list.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field, or 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, material management, and supply chain concepts.
- Strong analytical skills, proficiency in data manipulation, and presentation.
- Experience with SAP and production BOM structures.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work across organizational levels.
- APICS certification is desirable.
- Ability to lead ad hoc teams and manipulate data for decision-making.
- Attention to detail and accuracy is essential.
- Understanding of supply chain metrics and plant strategies.
- Majority of work in an office environment with some exposure to shop floor conditions.
