Job description

Under the guidance of the Bakery Supervisor, the Starter Room Operator is responsible for preparing white and organic starters according to established recipes. This includes feeding starter tanks, monitoring fermentation and cooling processes, managing mother starter quantities, performing Cleaning in Place (CIP), and ensuring the creation of a homogeneous mixture of mother, flour, and water to produce high-quality products.

Responsibilities

  1. Feed white and organic starter mothers and other ingredients.
  2. Prepare and mix starter ingredients following specified times and temperatures.
  3. Monitor and control starter mixing temperatures.
  4. Verify starter texture visually and physically to meet target characteristics.
  5. Monitor CIP chemical inventory.
  6. Enter data accurately into SAP promptly.
  7. Verify proper functioning of weight scales.
  8. Document mixing data accurately and timely.
  9. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of starter room equipment.
  10. Identify and weigh mother batch containers as required.
  11. Keep starter rooms clean and organized.
  12. Lift and handle 50 lb. flour bags safely.
  13. Monitor starter on the floor to prevent exceeding use time.
  14. Complete and file all starter mixing documentation at the end of shifts.
  15. Follow GMPs and Health and Safety rules, including maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment, reporting unsafe conditions, and using PPE.
  16. Adhere to food safety practices, including maintaining tools, handwashing, cleaning spills, and reporting contamination or suspicious activity.
  17. Report issues or deviations to supervisors.
  18. Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. High School Diploma or GED.
  2. At least 6 months of experience as an operator in a fast-paced production environment.
  3. Ability to understand and follow recipes and operate starter mixing controls.
  4. Basic knowledge of starter mixing and equipment.
  5. Ability to read scale and temperature readouts.
  6. Accurate and timely documentation skills.
  7. Clear writing and effective verbal skills in English.
  8. Proficiency with computers and SAP system for data reporting.

Shift: 1st Shift, 6 am - 2:30 pm (must be able to work weekends)
