Job summary

Element Materials Technology is seeking a Production Operator to join our growing team. You will fabricate, assemble and perform composite layups using bonding techniques and precision instruments, working with resins, cloths and fixtures in a fast-paced environment.

This role requires minimum supervision, overtime, and occasional Saturdays; prior experience in aerospace/auto/boat manufacturing and the ability to read mechanical drawings are essential.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required.
  • 2-4 years' experience as Composite Technician, Assembler or Machinist preferred in aerospace/auto/boat sectors.
  • Experience reading mechanical drawings.
  • Proficient with hand and power tools for assembly tasks.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment issues and maintain quality.
  • Able to work in an assembly line with strong attention to detail and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Works from process sheets or verbal instructions to sequence operations for fabricating parts.
  • Prepares tooling/fixturing for fabrication and coupon testing.
  • Operates equipment to correct in-process conditions (resin issues, air pockets, delamination).
  • Sets up forming machines and laminates cloth/resins onto layup fixtures to shape parts.
  • Vacuum bagging, attach fittings, and prepare lamination for curing.
  • Cuts materials to size using shears/knives.
  • Sets up and operates curing ovens/autoclaves; manages heat/cooling.
  • Verifies work with measuring tools (verniers, height gauges, micrometers).
  • Performs other duties as required.

Overview

Element has an opportunity for a Production Operator to join our rapidly expanding team. With minimum supervision, perform functions related to fabricating, assembling and performing composite layup by applying knowledge of working characteristics of bonding techniques by utilizing precision instruments, hand tools, power tools, machines and equipment. Must be available to work overtime and occasional Saturdays.

Salary: $20- $30/hr DOE

Responsibilities
  • Works from process sheets or verbal instructions identifying the type and sequence of operations needed to construct a variety of parts to meet contractual requirements.
  • Prepares tooling/fixturing used for fabrication and coupon testing.
  • Operates standard equipment to remedy in-process conditions such as excess or insufficient resin, trapped air pockets or delamination.
  • Prepares ingredients such as resins, catalysts, fillers, accelerators and colors, according to process.
  • Sets up and operates forming machines and presses, or laminates plastic cloth and resins or premium pregnated cloth onto layup mold or bonding fixture, to shape parts.
  • Wraps bonding fixture or mold in vacuum bagging materials, attaches fittings to mold or fixture, such as vacuum connections, thermocouples, and probes, and exhausts air from vacuum bag to prepare lamination for curing or bonding.
  • Cuts material to size using shears, knives, cutters.
  • Set-up and operate curing ovens and autoclaves to meet defined objectives as needed.
  • Cures product either under heat lamps or in oven, hooking appropriate heat and cooling lines, adjusting steam pressure and water valves as needed.
  • Verifies work using verniers, height gauges, dial indicators, micrometers, etc.
  • Utilizes tools, drills and other concepts to facilitate precision assembly
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.
Skills / Qualifications
  • Requires a High School Diploma
  • 2-4 years' experience working as a Composite Technician, Assembler or Machinist in the Aerospace, Auto or Boat Manufacturing industry preferred.
  • Experience reading and interpreting mechanical drawings.
  • Good mechanical skills.
  • Proficient in using hand tools and power tools for assembly tasks.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Ability to work effectively in an assembly line setting, demonstrating attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Willingness to adhere to safety guidelines and maintain a safe working environment
