Job summary

Checkr is seeking an ML Engineer (P3) to build and ship AI systems powering Checkr’s core products. You will own ML services end-to-end, from design to deployment, focusing on production software with LLMs, APIs, and scalable context.

You will collaborate with Product Engineering, cross-functional teams, and contribute to Checkr’s AI strategy. Based in San Francisco with hub locations, the role emphasizes shipping over heavy process.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in CS, Math, or related field, or equivalent depth from experience.
• 6+ years building software professionally, with at least 2 years building ML systems in production.
• Strong Python fluency with production-grade code, and experience using LLM APIs in production.
• Built and maintained APIs, with CI/CD pipelines and reliable deployments.
• Comfort with AI-assisted workflows; experience with LLMs or agentic systems in production is a strong signal.
• AI-focused mindset with ownership, urgency, and bias for action.

Responsibilities

• Build and deploy ML/AI services that product teams rely on; write model code, API layer, monitoring, and tests.
• Design with LLMs and APIs; manage costs, latency, and quality.
• Ship production software with clean, testable code and robust error handling.
• Partner with product and engineering to translate problems into ML solutions and define API contracts.
• Evaluate and iterate quickly using data-driven decisions on model and system performance.
• Ship AI-powered workflows; enable automated pipelines and reusable context for Checkr’s platform.
