SUMMARY:

The Production Lead is responsible for ensuring the production team is actively engaged and striving to meet daily customer demands and production schedules. The Production Lead provides effective Assembler training while ensuring both safety and quality standards are maintained at all times. The Production Lead will perform a series of operations using a variety of hand and power tools, fixtures, test stations, work instructions, bills of materials, and engineering drawings to assemble and test industrial print systems and packaging equipment. This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. This individual may be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training to work within specialty areas. Requires 3-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and manage/lead a team of direct reports. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision -- typically reporting to a Production or Operations Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervision:
  • Work with the Master Scheduler to manage and prioritize staffing assignments.
  • Coordinate and execute employee training.
  • Use basic problem-solving skills to ensure stable operation of work cells.
  • Report problems or concerns with quality, processes, equipment, materials, and labor to the Manager.
  • Work closely with support staff such as Technicians, Engineers, Sales, Customer Service, and Materials personnel to resolve issues.
  • Identify and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Conduct performance evaluations.
Assembly Process:
  • Assemble mechanical and electrical devices, including but not limited to printers, printheads, and subassemblies. Will know and be an expert on all assembly processes.
  • Read and interpret process documentation, drawings, prints, diagrams, and/or schematics.
  • Pull parts from inventory to assemble the device.
  • Complete paperwork such as work orders, forms, and checklists associated with the assembly of the device.
  • Basic testing, troubleshooting, and inspection of assembled products for defects.
  • Document and update assembly processes as necessary.
  • Add assembled parts back into inventory
  • Package assembled parts for shipment.
Computer Systems:
  • Look up drawings to aid in assembly.
  • Enter data to create labels and maintain production records.
  • Use the business software system to perform routine transactions such as: receive and allocate jobs, kit and complete work orders, check stock levels and BOM contents, etc.
  • Maintain communication with engineers on issues regarding current systems.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy. Participate in the cycle counting program. Notify Supervisor of count discrepancies and shortages.
  • Train other co-workers as needed.
  • Work Safely. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area.
  • Work on process improvements or Kaizens
  • Help set up new cell layouts
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of previous experience.
  • Ability to understand and interpret drawings.
  • Excellent hand-to-eye coordination.
  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tool usage.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently following general procedures.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to operate general office equipment such as telephone, copier, fax, computer, etc.
