Job summary

JBS is seeking a Production Hourly employee to perform a range of duties in the safe, efficient production, processing, packaging, labeling, and preparation of ground beef and other meat products for shipment. You may be assigned to different production areas and must follow all USDA, safety, and sanitation requirements.

The role involves standing for long periods, lifting, repeated motions, and working in a cold, wet environment.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • One or more years of production or food-processing experience preferred.
  • Ability to follow safety policies and procedures.
  • Basic understanding of production processes and procedures.
  • Ability to operate knives, equipment, and machinery safely.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare work areas for pre- and post-operational activities.
  • Load/unload/transfer product to/from equipment and conveyors.
  • Monitor production lines and replenish packaging materials as needed.
  • Sort, weigh, wrap, label, verify, and measure product per specs.
  • Inspect product and packaging; remove defects from the process.
  • Report to workstation on time; overtime may be required.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area.
  • Follow safety procedures and PPE requirements.
  • Identify and report safety concerns or equipment issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

The Production Hourly employee is responsible for performing a variety of duties associated with the safe, efficient, and sanitary production, processing, packaging, labeling, handling, and preparation of ground beef and other meat products for shipment to customers. Employees may be assigned to different production areas based on business needs and must follow all company, USDA, food safety, quality, safety, and sanitation requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare work areas for pre-operational and post-operational activities.
  • Load, unload, and transfer product to and from equipment and conveyors.
  • Monitor production lines, identify issues, and supply or replenish packaging materials as needed.
  • Sort, weigh, wrap, label, verify, and measure product to meet established specifications.
  • Inspect product and packaging materials and remove defective items from the process.
  • Report to the assigned workstation prepared to begin work at the scheduled start time and remain until the work is complete or released by a supervisor or manager. Overtime may be required based on business needs and applicable policies or collective bargaining agreement provisions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Set up and tear down equipment, select predetermined settings, and use proper lifting, bending, and reaching techniques.
  • Follow company, plant, food-safety, and workplace-safety policies and procedures.
  • Identify and report safety concerns, hazards, equipment issues, or product-quality concerns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • Ability to understand and follow company, plant, food-safety, and workplace-safety rules and procedures.
  • Basic understanding of production processes and procedures.
  • Ability to learn and safely operate knives, equipment, and machinery used in the assigned work area.
  • Ability to use both arms and hands to perform tasks such as lifting, loading, cutting, wrapping, labeling, and packaging product.
  • Ability to work at a production conveyor line.
  • Ability to understand and follow product specifications and quality requirements.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This is a physically active production position. The essential functions may require standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, reaching, and climbing, depending on the assigned work area.

  • Standing and walking: Ability to remain on one’s feet and move throughout the assigned work area for extended periods, including during scheduled production shifts.
  • Repetitive motion: Frequent and regular use of hands, wrists, fingers, and arms may be required.
  • Lifting and handling: Ability to frequently handle materials weighing up to 60 pounds and occasionally handle materials weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance, where applicable to the assigned work area.
  • Vision: Ability to perform job-related visual tasks, including inspecting product and packaging, reading labels, and identifying defects or safety concerns.
  • Hearing and communication: Ability to receive and respond to job-related instructions, safety information, and equipment or workplace signals. The assigned work area may be noisy.
  • Temperature and conditions: Work is performed in a food-processing environment that may be wet, damp, and cold. Temperatures may frequently be approximately 34°F, depending on the assigned work area.
  • Equipment and safety: Employees must follow required safety procedures and use assigned personal protective equipment.
