Job summary

Mitchell & Associates in Indiana is seeking a Production Group Leader to oversee assigned production lines, ensuring safety, quality, and lean targets while reporting to the area production supervisor.

You will coordinate schedules, line changes, and material readiness, monitor performance, and drive improvements. The role requires teamwork, strong communication, and adherence to 5S standards, with daily documentation and problem-solving responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 3 years leadership experience for an automotive manufacturer preferred.
  • Ability to comply with existing processes and/or quickly adapt to new processes within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Follows direction from the production supervisor or designated back up. (BU mgr/Ops Mgr)
  • Communicate the production schedule, line assignments and changes to production line employees
  • Escalate stop call wait information to the BU supervisor / BU manager.
  • Communicate changes in manning availability to BU supervisor / BU manager
  • Restocks lines with production materials supplied by the stock chasers and ensures Kan Ban cards are placed in the designated drop points for pick up by the stock chasers.
  • Informs the stock chaser and supervisors of any part shortages.
  • Ensures all waste is removed from the production lines.
  • Assist lead ops with machine resets.
  • Assist the lead op in contacting quality personnel, set up personnel, maintenance personnel to address stop call waits, trouble shooting, clarification in standard requirements etc.
  • Monitor lineside boards hourly for compliance to targets and drive countermeasures for negative trends.
  • Ensure compliance to 5s standards by auditing the line, correcting variances to the standards and assign team members responsibility for the maintenance of the line to the 5s standard.
  • Assist lead ops with writing work orders for line repairs.
  • Confirm set up verification and that set up has left the area clean and organized, if not escalate to your supervisor.
  • Confirm maintenance technicians working on the lines have left the area clean and organized, if not escalate to your supervisor.
  • Assist in problem solving negative trends regarding safety, quality and production numbers utilizing problem solving tools such as fish bone, 1x1, 3x5 and master dot activities.
  • Lead the production team, mentor and motivate team members, ensuring individual and group productivity
  • Act as a communication hub for the team, disseminating pertinent and timely information
  • Identify needs, training, and development for department team members
  • Ensure line has correct documentation for the products being produced.
  • Ensure compliance to the escalation process.
  • Assist team members in retrieving supplies from the MRO cage.
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Ensure all paperwork is completed, legible and turned in daily.
