Job description

The Production Supervisor is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating daily manufacturing operations within assigned departments to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production performance. This role provides frontline leadership focused on safety, employee development, operational excellence, customer service, and continuous improvement while ensuring production schedules, departmental metrics, and company objectives are consistently achieved.

The Production Supervisor leads by example, promotes a safety-first culture, and collaborates closely with Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, Customer Service, and Operations teams to optimize productivity, improve processes, and support a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Major Responsibilities:
Safety Leadership & Compliance
  • Promote and maintain a safety-first culture throughout all manufacturing operations.
  • Lead by example by demonstrating safe work practices and enforcing all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accountability for the safety of employees, contractors, and visitors within assigned manufacturing areas.
  • Ensure all safety devices, guards, and procedures are properly utilized for safe equipment operation.
  • Participate in safety investigations, corrective actions, audits, and continuous safety improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, and operational safety standards.
Production & Operational Management
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate daily manufacturing operations to achieve safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and customer requirements.
  • Execute production schedules by prioritizing work, allocating labor and equipment resources, and coordinating with supporting departments to maintain operational flow and resolve constraints.
  • Monitor and drive departmental performance through established KPIs, production goals, labor utilization, quality metrics, and schedule adherence.
  • Communicate operational priorities, production status, risks, and recovery plans to employees, leadership, customer service, and cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain accurate ERP transactions, inventory records, production documentation, and operational reporting required to support execution and decision-making.
  • Identify operational bottlenecks, equipment issues, and process inefficiencies, and implement or recommend actions to improve productivity, reliability, and performance.
  • Escalate resource constraints, schedule risks, and operational barriers in a timely manner to support problem-solving and adaptive planning.
  • Submit operational requests and requisitions necessary to support departmental execution.
Continuous Improvement & Process Development
  • Analyze production performance and operational data to identify trends, inefficiencies, root causes, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, delivery, productivity, scrap reduction, and cost performance.
  • Create, revise, and maintain manufacturing process documentation, including work instructions, MFRCs, drawings, and process improvement records.
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement tools including Kaizen, 3C's, TWI, Autonomous Maintenance, Kamishibai, and Visual Management to improve operational performance.
  • Lead, coordinate, and delegate continuous improvement projects within assigned departments.
  • Promote a culture of operational excellence, problem-solving, and continuous improvement through employee engagement, coaching, and accountability.
  • Contribute ideas and recommendations that support operational improvements, employee safety, productivity, and company success.
Leadership & Employee Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop employees to improve performance, engagement, and overall effectiveness.
  • Assign work, establish expectations, and monitor performance to ensure safety, quality, productivity, and production goals are achieved.
  • Train, onboard, and develop employees on safety procedures, job responsibilities, quality standards, standardized work, and workplace expectations to build capability and support succession planning.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to communicate operational priorities, departmental performance, business objectives, and organizational updates.
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and accountable work environment that promotes teamwork, communication, and employee engagement.
  • Enforce company policies, procedures, attendance standards, and workplace expectations consistently and professionally.
  • Partner with leadership and Human Resources regarding performance management, corrective actions, staffing, employee development, and employment recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate personnel records, payroll approvals, and employee documentation assigned teams.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to support operational requirements across shifts and departments as needed.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned or required.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of manufacturing leadership experience as a Group Leader, Team Lead, or similar role.
  • Experience leading teams of 10 or more employees in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with ERP systems, production scheduling, and Lean Manufacturing methodologies preferred.
  • Experience supporting precision manufacturing, machining, aerospace, defense, or similar regulated industries preferred.
