Job summary

  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and CAD tools is essential.

  • Experience with Japanese transplants is highly beneficial.
  • Strong troubleshooting and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Maintain thorough project documentation.

Job Description:
Education / Work Experience
  • Four year engineering degree (mechanical) and seven years relevant experience, or Two year engineering degree (mechanical) and fifteen years relevant experience, or No engineering degree and twenty years relevant experience
Background / Skills
  • Automotive background a must, with preference towards high volume assembly operations.
  • Experience with Japanese transplants will be highly beneficial.
  • Able to manage individual engineers to meet project deadlines.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects on a simultaneous basis.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and time management skills will be essential in this position.
  • Ability to interface at multiple levels and operate within cross-functional teams is critical.
  • Must be able to maintain project records and documentation.
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office) are highly preferred.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing methods is desirable CAD skills a must, AutoCAD at a minimum.
  • Experience with SolidEdge, SolidWorks or CATIA high preferred.
Special Training / Certificates
  • Preferred: 5P Training, Kepnor Tregoe PSDM (Problem Solving Decision Making), SPC, Legal Supervision, Coaching & Counseling, Project Management Suggested: Solid Edge, AutoCAD, OSHA, EPA
Specific Job Responsibilities
  • Adhere to Astemo’s Safety Policy and practices and report any potential unsafe condition or concern to the Safety department immediately and/or to your direct supervisor.
  • Ensure proper safety practices are in place and enforced.
  • Assist with implementation of new safety practices.
  • Develop, track, and maintain capital and expense budgets to support executive management control of the business operation relative to approved activities.
  • Track and maintain control of all projects in terms of safety, quality, cost and delivery.
  • Develop departmental associates to ensure a strong business condition and provide for future growth opportunities.
  • Coordinate and support PE department 5S activity
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws
  • Develop departmental and organizational activities to achieve strategic objectives outlined by executive management.
  • Support overall organization by implementation of these activities which maintaining ongoing business operations on a cross functional bases.
  • Maintain a theme of continuous improvement for all functions of the department
  • Maintains team environment with other departments within plant
  • Maintains position of accessibility for associates questions and concerns
  • Conduct performance appraisals and sets goals for department staff which supports business plan.
