Salem Media Group in New York, NY is seeking a Production Director to shape the overall sound of commercials and produced shows across our stations. You will lead voice, production, and mixing of Production Orders for Sales, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality on-air content.

The role requires at least 5 years in a mid-to-major market, advanced audio editing skills (Adobe Audition, ProTools), and daily work in our Manhattan studios.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of mid to major market experience in radio.
  • Advanced audio editing skills using tools like Audition or ProTools.
  • Ability to work daily in downtown Manhattan studios.

Responsibilities

  • Voice, produce, and mix Production Orders from Sales for commercials, promos, show intros/outros, and on-air content.
  • Ensure all programming is ready for weekend airing and distributed to Sales/Clients for review.
  • Record and engineer live and pre-recorded programs in studio or remotely via Zoom/Skype/phone.
  • Oversee studios and calendars; coordinate with Operations Manager and Chief Engineer on repairs.
  • Keep live read copy up to date and provide latest copies to local hosts.
  • Coach talent, including professionals and amateurs, on radio fundamentals and recording sessions.
  • Provide evergreen programs for local shows when hosts are unavailable.
  • Guide Production staff on obtaining programs in absence of Production Director; assist as needed.
  • Fill in for Studio Engineers when required.

Job Overview

The Production Director is responsible for the overall sound of commercials and produced shows on our radio stations.

Responsibilities
  • Voice, produce, and mix Production Orders from the Sales team, which run the gamut of commercials, promos, show intros and outros, and other on-air content as required by Sales and management – and making changes to content as needed.
  • Ensure all programming is in for weekend airing, in advanced, produced, and sent to Sales and Clients for review in advance of airings
  • Recording and Engineering live and pre-recorded programs in studio, and on occasion with remote access by hosts and guests, via Zoom, Skype or phone
  • Overseeing studios and calendars of recording times, and working with the Operations Manager and Chief Engineer to ensure studios are operating in satisfactory condition, and escalating any needed repairs
  • Ensuring all live read copy is up to date and ensuring local hosts have the most recent copy
  • Comfortable dealing with Talent – both Professional and Amateur, and teaching them radio fundamentals if first time host, and coaching them through recording sessions
  • Ensuring evergreen programs are available for all local shows and hosts in case they can’t make their live or recorded studio time
  • Making sure Master Control Operators, Production Assistants, and other Production personnel have clear and concise instructions on how to obtain programs in absence of Production Director
  • Ready and able to fill in for Studio Engineers as needed
Requirements
  • At least (5) years of mid to major market experience in Radio
  • Advanced Audio Editing skills such as Adobe Audition, ProTools, etc.
  • Ability to work daily in our studios in downtown Manhattan

Salary range: $50,000-$75,000
