We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Production Design Director to support one of our agency's largest and growing client accounts. This role is designed for a strong designer who enjoys doing the work as much as leading others.
The Production Design Director will spend the majority of their time actively designing and producing creative across a wide variety of projects for this client while also providing creative leadership, coaching and development for a team of designers.
This is not a traditional management-only creative leadership role. The ideal candidate is a highly productive designer who can thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, manage multiple projects and deadlines, and help other designers strengthen their work. This position is dedicated exclusively to a specific client account.
The Production Design Director works as part of the established production workflow for the assigned client account.
Day-to-day workload, project assignments, production priorities, schedules and team capacity are managed by the Director of Operations/Traffic Manager.
The Production Design Director will partner closely with Operations to ensure work is completed efficiently and deadlines are met. The Production Design Director is expected to manage their assigned workload within this system while balancing their design responsibilities with appropriate coaching and leadership of the design team. Creative leadership and review should support and strengthen the production process without creating unnecessary additional approval steps or bottlenecks.
Success will mean more than producing strong individual creative work.
The Production Design Director will help increase creative capacity for a major client account while improving the strength and consistency of the entire design team. Over time, we expect this person to help designers become stronger, identify and address recurring creative issues, improve production systems and templates, and ensure that the creative operation can scale effectively as the client business grows.
Most importantly, the successful candidate will remain an active, highly productive member of the design team. This is a player-coach role in which hands-on design and production remain the primary responsibility.
Must be available to work standard business hours in the Eastern Time Zone.
