Job summary

Sonoco Production Associate I in Memphis, TN (President Island) is seeking candidates to operate in a fast-paced packaging environment. You will perform running set-ups, manufacture orders to schedule, and prepare products for storage or shipment while maintaining quality and safety standards.

The role requires ability to learn operating standards, multitask, perform basic math, and work with computer systems. Weekend availability and teamwork are valued as essential traits for success.

Position: Production Associate I Location: Memphis TN (President Island) Wage: $29.43/hr Shift: Must be able to work 2nd & 3rd shift (8 hour shift)

While reporting directly to the Shift Supervisor, the following job description outlines the essential functions of each level of role within the tooling department. What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Execute running set-ups and adjustments as needed.
  • Manufacture orders per specific production schedules.
  • Pack, stack, and band finished product and prepare product for storage or shipment.
  • Manufacture a high-quality product that exceeds customer’s expectations.
  • Follow all safety rules / regulations.
  • Exemplify the belief that working safe is a condition of employment and that all injuries are preventable.
  • Maintain accurate records for assigned work area.
  • Work with Windows based computer programs.

  • Can work a flexible work schedule, including weekends.
  • Must have the ability learn and know operating standards for assigned equipment and monitor hourly during shifts.
  • Operators must be able to multi-task, conduct quality checks, and communicate with leaders and supervisors in order to achieve production goals.
  • Operators should take initiative and judgment in their work, particularly on set-ups and adjustments, to avoid breakdowns and equipment trouble.
  • Load equipment with raw materials and pack off finished product at a rate that meets and exceeds operational standards.
  • Operators must perform duties in a manner that is consistent with the best safety practices and report any unsafe conditions to supervisors or management.
  • Must keep equipment and work area clean and orderly.
  • Perform similar cleaning duties as assigned.
  • Exhibits a ‘can do’ teamwork approach with fellow production employees.
  • Essential to be able to perform basic mathematics equations, and work with computers.
  • Requires standing, twisting, bending and the ability to push or pull up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
