Job summary

Owens Corning is seeking a Machine Operator for our Rockford, IL facility to manage and safely operate downstream production processes in a fast-paced environment. Ideal candidates have 1–5 years of manufacturing experience, good mechanical aptitude, and the ability to read scales and tape measures.

You will operate HMI/PLC interfaces, use forklift, perform quality inspections, and adhere to 5S and safety policies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED for candidate eligibility.
• 1–5 years of manufacturing experience preferred.
• Good mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
• Ability to read scales and tape measures accurately.
• Capable of performing tasks with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Tend production lines and interact with equipment via HMI/PLC interfaces.
• Safely operate a forklift and ensure clean work area per 5S.
• Perform board quality inspections and measurement checks.
• Operate unit wrapper, printer, and barcode equipment.
• Follow Owens Corning safety policies and plant rules.
• Lift up to 55 lbs and work up to 12 hours in hot/cold environments.
• Maintain good attendance and support team as needed.

The Owens Corning Rockford IL facility is a leading manufacturing plant producing extruded polystyrene foam board insulation for the construction industry.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Owens Corning seeks Machine Operators with manufacturing experience in a fast‑paced production environment. The role aims to manage and safely operate all aspects of the downstream process, with opportunities for leadership growth.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Tend production lines and interact with equipment using HMI/PLC interfaces.
• Safely operate a forklift.
• Accurately perform board quality inspections.
• Accurately measure objects using a tape measure, six‑inch scale, and digital caliper.
• Operate unit wrapper and perform all associated tasks.
• Operate printer equipment and barcode machine.
• Learn and comply with all Owens Corning safety policies and plant rules.
• Maintain a clean, orderly work area in compliance with 5S standards.
• Lift up to 55 lbs without assistance.
• Work up to 12 hours in hot/cold manufacturing environment.
• Walk or stand on concrete floor continuously for up to 12 hours.
• Use PPE: steel‑toed shoes, eye protection, hearing protection, long‑sleeved shirt as required.
• Maintain a high level of attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

• 1 to 5 years in a manufacturing setting.
