Duties & Accountabilities
- Operate machines and equipment or use hand tools to cut, shape, splice, and fit plastic materials for parts and assemblies.
- Follow blueprints and drawings to assemble shell halves using a hand lay-up process.
- Install fittings, gauge plates, man-ways, and other components and accessories.
- Cut and prepare composite materials from patterns to join parts and assemblies.
- Make minor adjustments or repairs to products.
- Use equipment including grinders, trimmers, measuring tools, and rollers.
- Inspect work periodically to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Document information on process sheets and time cards accurately and promptly.
- Maintain a neat and organized work area.
- Perform preventive maintenance to keep equipment operational.
- Support the production process with other activities as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma preferred.
- Relevant experience or background in manufacturing or industrial environments preferred.
- Experience with spray guns is a definite asset.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings is an asset.
- Good English communication skills, including verbal, written, and reading.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills.
- Willingness and ability to learn new tools and equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail to identify material and product defects.
- Comfortable working in a fiberglass plant environment.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces when needed.
- Flexibility to work variable hours, including overtime and weekends.
- Physical ability to lift 20-50 lbs., and perform bending, crouching, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
Safety
- Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to safety rules and promoting a safety culture.
- Ensure equipment and processes operate safely and efficiently.
- Support the development of HAA and SOP documentation.
- Collaborate with employers and coworkers to protect health and safety at the work site.
