Job summary

Sonoco in Chestnut Hill, TN is seeking a Production and Maintenance Technician Apprentice to grow from Production Associate to Assembly Mechanic. You'll work 12-hour rotating shifts, perform quality checks, and assist with preventative maintenance and equipment repairs.

This apprenticeship emphasizes safety, teamwork, and problem solving, with on-the-job training across production, maintenance, and data recording.

Qualifications

• Experience in an industrial environment or military experience troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining manufacturing equipment.
• Comfortable with mechanical lifts, ladders, kneeling, bending and twisting; lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Willingness to work off-shift with rotating schedules and overtime, including weekends.

Responsibilities

• Perform quality checks on products and assist with unplanned breakdown repairs.
• Conduct preventative maintenance on a monthly basis.
• Operate, adjust, and repair equipment as needed.
• Record operating data such as production figures and machine performance.
• Keep records of tasks on paper and in computer systems.
• Supply and maintain required hand tools and perform site cleanup and housekeeping duties.

Position: Production and Maintenance Technician Apprentice
Location: Chestnut Hill, TN
Shift: 12-hour rotating shifts; 4 on 4 off
Pay Rate: $31.87

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Have a “Teamwork” and “Root Cause Problem Solving Mindset”
• Own and follow Safety policies and procedures.
• Complete training from positions of Production Associate to Assembly Mechanic.
• Daily job duties are Maintainer role in Production performing Quality checks and unplanned breakdown repair if required
• Perform preventative maintenance as required (On a monthly basis)
• Perform various manual or mechanical production functions by operating, adjusting, and repairing the equipment.
• Conduct inspection of in-process and finished products and adhere to quality standards.
• Jointly responsible for required operating data such as production figures, machine performance, efficiencies, maintenance, quality / spoilage.
• Record keeping of job tasks on paper and in computer system.
• Supply and maintain required hand tools. (3-month tie frame)
• Perform clean-up, painting, and housekeeping duties.
• Record keeping of tasks in an off shift position with rotating shifts that will require overtime including weekends

• You have experience in an industrial environment or military experience troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining manufacturing equipment
• Experience with PLC troubleshooting, industrial and motor controlsa plus but not required
• Comfortable with mechanical lifts, ladders, kneeling, bending and twisting; lifting up to 50 lbs
• Working independently and managing multiple tasks in an off shift position with rotating shifts that will require overtime including weekends
