Job summary

Stevens is a strategic advisory and technology firm seeking an experienced AI / ML Engineer on an hourly contract to join Stevens on enterprise client engagements. You will design and build production-grade AI systems, develop RAG and embeddings, and implement AI workflows within client environments.

Responsibilities include evaluating models, building APIs, and collaborating with delivery teams to own work from design to deployment.

Qualifications

• Strong Python development experience with production systems.
• Experience shipping AI/ML systems in production.
• Familiarity with LLMs, retrieval, and knowledge systems.
• Ability to design and evaluate prompts and retrieval strategies.

Responsibilities

• Design and build production-grade AI and machine learning systems
• Build applications and services using LLMs and foundation models
• Develop RAG, semantic search, embeddings, retrieval, and knowledge systems
• Design agentic and tool-using AI workflows
• Build backend services, APIs, and integrations supporting AI applications
• Design evaluation frameworks and measure AI system quality
• Work with enterprise data and integrate AI into existing systems
• Evaluate models and tooling based on business needs
• Optimize AI systems for reliability and cost
• Participate in architecture discussions and code reviews
• Collaborate with Stevens architects and client teams
• Own technical work from design to production delivery
