Job summary

Autonomize AI in Austin, TX is building production AI systems for healthcare agents and copilots. This hands-on AI Engineer role focuses on delivering measurable improvements across the full lifecycle, from LLM/VML and RAG pipelines to evaluation, monitoring, and fast research-to-production execution.

The position is based in Austin, TX and is onsite. You will work with a modern ML stack to ship systems that support utilization management and payment integrity, claims, and appeals.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of applied ML and LLMs experience is required.
• Experience with healthcare data and regulated environments is a plus.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals with readable, testable code.

Responsibilities

• Build and optimize production AI pipelines integrating LLMs with classical ML, including RAG, extraction, scoring, summarization, and classification for healthcare workflows.
• Develop VLM- and OCR-based pipelines to transform medical documents into structured data.
• Run SFT and LoRA experiments on open-source and proprietary models.
• Create retrieval strategies, prompt chains, tool-using agents, and orchestration for production use cases.
• Develop evaluation harnesses, perform error analysis, and translate findings into measurable accuracy gains.
• Monitor and improve model quality, latency, cost, explainability, and safety in production.
• Prototype new techniques from research and determine readiness for production.
• Collaborate with senior MLEs, product, engineering and domain experts, with clear documentation.
