Do you enjoy solving real-world engineering problems after a product launches? If you're the type of engineer who likes improving products, supporting manufacturing, driving engineering changes, managing product data, and partnering across engineering, quality, purchasing, and operations, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for.
Our client is a leading manufacturer of highly engineered pneumatic, fluid control, braking, and safety-related products used in demanding transportation and industrial applications. Their products operate in environments where reliability, quality, safety, and performance are critical.
Due to continued growth and the retirement of several long-tenured engineers, the organization is seeking a Product Sustaining Engineer to join its engineering team.
This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys working at the intersection of engineering, manufacturing, operations, and product management. The role focuses on supporting existing product lines, managing engineering changes, improving products, maintaining engineering data, and helping ensure products continue to meet customer, manufacturing, and business needs throughout their lifecycle.
What You'll Do
- Take ownership of existing product lines and support ongoing product improvement initiatives.
- Drive engineering changes, cost reduction efforts, manufacturability improvements, and product enhancements.
- Support engineering releases and product lifecycle activities from concept through implementation.
- Evaluate and implement product updates based on manufacturing, supplier, customer, and operational feedback.
- Manage engineering releases, drawing updates, BOM revisions, and product documentation.
- Support engineering databases, product structures, and product data systems.
- Ensure engineering records remain accurate and up to date throughout the product lifecycle.
- Maintain revision control and documentation integrity.
CAD & PDM Support
- Work within SolidWorks and PDM systems to support engineering documentation and product updates.
- Support administration and maintenance of CAD-related data and engineering records.
- Coordinate engineering drawing updates and release activities.
ERP & Business Systems
- Support engineering activities within Oracle and other ERP systems.
- Manage engineering-related data entry, product changes, releases, and system updates.
- Partner with purchasing, manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to ensure data accuracy.
Manufacturing Support
- Serve as the liaison between Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, and Operations.
- Support manufacturing issue resolution and ongoing production needs.
- Participate in root cause investigations, product improvements, and corrective actions.
- Collaborate with production teams to improve quality, manufacturability, reliability, and cost.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
- 3+ years of experience in an engineering and manufacturing environment.
- Experience supporting existing products throughout the product lifecycle.
- PDM, PLM, or engineering data management experience.
- Experience managing BOMs, engineering releases, product changes, and technical documentation.
- Strong understanding of GD&T, manufacturing processes, and DFM/DFA principles.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and purchasing teams.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Oracle or ERP system experience.
- Windchill, TeamCenter, SolidWorks PDM, or similar systems.
- Engineering Change Notice (ECN) or Engineering Release experience.
- Product support, sustaining engineering, or product lifecycle management experience.
- Experience in transportation, industrial equipment, heavy machinery, braking systems, pneumatic systems, or engineered products.
- Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience.
Why This Opportunity?
- Own and influence established product lines used in mission-critical applications.
- Highly visible role supporting engineering, manufacturing, quality, and operations.
- Blend of engineering, product ownership, manufacturing support, and product lifecycle management.
- Opportunity to become a key technical resource across multiple departments.
- Stable organization with long-term growth opportunities.
