Job summary

Buildertrend invites motivated students to join as Product Security Intern for a summer program in Omaha, NE. You’ll work with security engineers to embed security in the software development lifecycle, gain hands-on experience with application and cloud security, and contribute to protections for Buildertrend's platform used by construction professionals.

You’ll learn to use the same tools as our Product Security team and participate in real projects, including secure coding reviews,

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, cybersecurity, information security, mathematics, physics, engineering or a related field.
• Available to work full‑time onsite at the Buildertrend HQ in Omaha, NE, for the full summer.
• Foundational understanding of web application security concepts (OWASP Top 10) and at least one programming or scripting language.
• Exposure to cloud platforms (GCP/Azure) and their security models is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist in running and triaging results from SAST/DAST scanning tools under guidance of senior security engineers.
• Help investigate and validate security findings, distinguishing true positives from false positives.
• Support review of authentication and authorization implementations (OAuth 2.0, RBAC).
• Assist with cloud security posture reviews in GCP and Azure, including IAM policy analysis.
• Contribute to maintaining security scanning pipelines integrated into CI/CD workflows.
• Participate in secure code reviews and learn vulnerability patterns (injection, XSS, broken access control).
• Help update internal security documentation and vulnerability tracking records.
• Assist in dependency and software composition analysis (SCA) scanning for known vulnerabilities.
• Support basic penetration testing activities as directed.
• Join team meetings, incident reviews and security-focused sprint activities.
• Work on a security project with mentors and progress updates.
