Job summary

The Radio Flyer Company in Chicago, IL is seeking a Quality Engineering Intern to join our quality team. You will perform hands-on testing, process inspections, and participate in product reviews to ensure our wagons and ride-ons meet safety and durability standards.

You will work with Product Quality Engineers, design simple test fixtures in the prototype shop using CAD tools, 3D printing, and basic measurement tools, and help identify improvements while learning in a fast-growing toy company.

Qualifications

  • Engineering student with a 3.0+ GPA.
  • Hands-on problem solver with attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, able to work independently or in a team.
  • Experience with CAD (SolidWorks) and basic fixture-building tools.
  • Mechatronics experience is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Execute in-house mechanical and electrical testing of new product concepts and summarize findings.
  • Design/create prototype fixtures and test setups in the prototype shop using 3D printing, wood, and metal materials.
  • Conduct benchmarking studies and analyze results to drive improvements.
  • Evaluate products returned from retail partners and identify root causes for improvements.
  • Inspect inventory for order accuracy and quality issues, collaborating with engineers in the U.S. and overseas.

As the Quality Engineering Intern,working with the qualityteam, you will play a key role in the continued growth and success of the company. Working with Product Quality Engineers you will complete hands-on testing and various product reviews/inspections to ensure our innovative products are safe and durable. This is a paid opportunity.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Execute in-house mechanical and electrical testing of new product concepts, then summarize and share findings
  • Design/create works-like prototypes of potential product changes and test fixtures in the prototype shop using 3D printing, wood and metal materials to improve product quality
  • Complete benchmarking studies through active problem solving and experimentation
  • Evaluate products returned from retail partners and perform root cause analysis to recommend potential areas of improvement
  • Inspect incoming and outgoing part inventory for order accuracy and quality issues
  • Collaborate with engineers in both the U.S. and overseas through email and conference calls to complete projects

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will be a junior or senior, majoring in an engineering field with a 3.0+ grade point average.
  • Hands-on problem solver, results oriented, with the ability to prioritize objectives and meet timelines while maintaining a strong attention to detail
  • Self-motivated, proactive, capable of working independently or collaboratively as part of a team
  • Experience with CAD (Solidworks) and comfortability with tools to build simple fixtures
  • Experience in a machine shop setting, or mechatronics is a plus, but not required

The pay range per hour is $22-$26. Pay is based on responsibilities, skills/experience level, education, along with the Chicagoland area market, the consumer product industry, and company size. This internship may offer a relocation stipend for those who live outside of the Chicagoland area. Radio Flyer’s paid time off policies comply with the City of Chicago Paid Leave and Paid Sick and Safe Leave Ordinance.
