Job summary

Mainspring Energy, Inc in Menlo Park seeks a rigorous Product Performance Engineer to own the performance of our Linear Generator. You will combine hands-on experiments with data analysis to characterize, understand, and improve power output, efficiency, and emissions.

Reporting to the VP of Test Engineering, you will build Python analysis tools, run tests with technicians, and provide data-driven insights to close gaps against the PRD.

Qualifications

• PhD in mechanical/ aerospace/ chemical engineering or related field, or an MS with relevant experience.
• Deep expertise in thermodynamics and power generation with hardware/data experience.
• Proficient in Python data analysis with large, noisy datasets.
• Hands-on experience designing experiments with instrumentation and emissions testing.
• Strong communicator with the ability to present to leadership and cross-functional teams.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities

Responsibilities

• Own measurement and tracking of product performance against PRD targets.
• Identify gaps between measured performance and PRD targets and drive cross-functional closure.
• Design and execute experiments on Linear Generator test units with technicians.
• Build and maintain Python-based analysis tools and pipelines for large datasets.
• Apply first-principles thermodynamic analysis to explain observed performance.
• Communicate results clearly to design teams and make data-driven recommendations.
• Develop and improve test methods, instrumentation, and processes for future products
