A Taste of What You’ll Do

Join GALLO’s Product Insights and Sensory Operations team for a hands‑on summer internship at our headquarters in Modesto, California. You’ll work alongside sensory scientists, technical professionals, winemakers, and cross‑functional partners to discover how sensory and product insights guide innovation and business decisions across wine, spirits, and other beverage categories.

You’ll contribute to a defined research project supporting corporate initiatives such as new product development, category reviews, competitive assessments, product quality monitoring, or shelf‑life studies. Along the way, you’ll learn to professionally evaluate the sensory profiles of different wine styles and help develop, implement, and report findings using thoughtful research methods.

This is an opportunity to strengthen your technical, analytical, collaboration, and communication skills in a major consumer packaged goods environment. You’ll build relationships across the organization and conclude your internship by producing written and oral presentations that communicate your methodology, activities, and project results.

What You’ll Need

  • Currently enrolled at a college or university and working towards a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s Degree, or PhD in Food Science or Sensory Science.
  • Required to be 21 years of age or older at internship start date.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Required to lift and move up to 40 lbs. when necessary.
  • Required to work at heights of 50 feet, on tops of tanks inspecting wine surfaces when necessary.
  • Required to be 18 years or older. This may be in addition to other age requirements, if applicable, as listed in this job description.

How You’ll Stand Out

  • Coursework or experience in Sensory Science methodology (descriptive analysis, difference testing, lexicon development, Central location test); coursework or experience in answering questions using the scientific method (defining an objective, selecting/isolating variables and controls).
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis methods (ANOVA, t-test, frequency distribution, Principle Components Analysis, linear regression preferred); strong applied technical skills and analytical problem‑solving skills.
  • Intermediate or higher computer literacy in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint; outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and team skills and experience managing multiple assignments.

We are committed to providing competitive compensation, perks, and a culture that supports your well‑being. Benefits depend on your work category and may include medical and dental coverage, 401k plans, profit sharing, pet insurance, company holidays, access to an employee wine shop, and more! Additional information will be provided before your first interview.
